Looks o.k. so far.

~~Well this my first review and because of that, it may be shorter than some people are used to seeing on this site but I'll try to give it some depth. So, without further ado, let the review begin.~~

Prefaces:
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
So before I begin, just let me say, "no", I have not played any other Metroid game and therefore know nothing about metroid other than Samus can shoot lasers and turning into a rolling ball.

Since I have never been able to play metroid and hearing nothing but good things about it I finally decided to give this game a shot. Considering I actually had the system for it this time and it looked great on the T.V. I went ahead and bought it. The first thing that I noticed was that it wasn't two player. Now I love two player because I have a younger brother. I was rather hoping for this to be a two player but upon playing it I can see how it wouldn't really work as a multiplayer game. The second thing that I noticed was that it didn't use the nun-chuck which was alright by me because it becomes bothersome after a while.

Why is this even needed!?!?!?

Gameplay:
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

So we move onto the gameplay of Metroid. The first thing we get is a cutscene. Now I'm no fan of cutscenes. I mean if a cutscene is long enough I'll switch to the T.V. and watch that for a bit until it's over but this game's cutscene kept me interested. It looked good, it sounded good and they generally kept my attention (considering I have ADD that's pretty good). It lead me into the whole metroid storyline. It showed me the basic outline of the series without a whole bunch of extra junk that wasn't needed. You transition out of the cutscene for a basic outline of the controls. Little do we know but we won't be able to use all these controls for some time (to be explained later) but they are overall o.k. and easy to remember. I mean there are only like 4 or 5 different controls to remember. So we get to this ship called "The Bottle Ship", which is emitting this sound that is similar to a baby. Ironic isn't it? So we get here and immediately we are faced with a dilemma. We aren't told what is going on but we immediately switch to this viewing mode and the player is left to figure out what to do next.

Really annoying at times

So what we are looking for is a tiny image on the side of this ship that says Galactic Army... which is posted ALL OVER THE SHIP! Oh, that irritated me right off the bat. Putting that aside I finally find what this mini symbol after a good 5-7 minute looking. We go on and see Adam and some random guy whom we apparently know. People tell me, however, that they haven't a clue who in the world he is though. Now I'm 10 mintues into the game since learning the controls and not once shot anything yet. We have this long ass cutscene explaining who everyone is and why I'm treated like dirt. After all this, I go along this corridor until...finally, AN ENEMY FINALLY ATTACKS ME!

These guys get so annoying. They're not even hard to beat!

Well these enemies fall pretty easy and we continue on. So... basically, this is all that happens over and over again. Long cutscene, find a mini logo, long cutscene, fight a few enemies, and then repeat. This is how the game goes on for some time. I mean occasionally you get an upgrade in your weapons or a new move that allows you to break though certain walls and such. Which leads me to my next point. Samus is trying to make it up to Adam by following his every word. So you eventually get to a point in the game involving lava and you are slowly losing your health. Now this seems ordinary and makes sense. Until we reach the lava boss. By which Adam pipes in and says that you are allowed to use a part of your suit called a varia suit that makes you resilient against heat. WHAT?! We've been losing health like crazy only because Adam didn't allow it to be use? Then we get a weapon upgraded only because we find out after shooting a while that we can't hit a certain enemy. This part was beyond irritating and made NO SENSE!

This comic sums it up.

Beside those points the gameplay isn't all that bad. It has its highs and its lows but they put in enemies that require certain moves to finish off and overall, it isn't as bad as some people are saying. It may not be the best of the best but it is decent. And the story line was well worth it. I rather enjoyed the whole treachery and betrayal but love and hidden meaning behind it.

Bosses:
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The bosses, in my opinion, can either make or break a game. And the bosses in Other M were fantastic. There were firey bosses, flying bosses, giant blobs, ect. and it kept me entertained. They were hard but not overall complicated in a way that makes you want to give up. Every boss uses different techniques to kill it and it keeps things moving.

I can say that if I say that, I'd shit myself

The only boss that really irked me was... Ridley. He wasn't too hard so long as you knew what you were doing but there was just one move that... well it was so cheap that I wanted to rage against the machine. He grabs you, drags you along the wall until he's wasted a whole bar of life, then the game requires you to time your attacks correctly to shoot him. Otherwise he spews flames on you and basically screws you over. SO. DAMN. ANNOYING! And from what I've heard is that normally Samus is never afraid of Ridley but she just freaks out and freezes while her best friend "dies", THEN springs into action.

See what I mean?

But other Ridley, the bosses were o.k. but some needed work. Some were so damn easy that I wanted to scream and others were just so damn annoying because it required this "move-sense" thing where, just at the last second, you dodge their attack or you will get hit. That requires a lot of waiting.

Characters/Weapons
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

There isn't much for me to talk about here because other than Samus, Adam, and MB (the Mother Brain sub) you don't really get to know the other characters. Plus there is somebody that Samus names, The Deleter, which is forgotten at the end of the game. MB took some time to get used to her character because she's actually playing as your target-to-be. Adam is mysterious other than the fact that he loved Samus as a daughter and was upset that Samus left the force with him. Samus's background is kind of implied from previous games and she just repeats the same facts over and over and over again! Other than that... well that's about it. Sorry. Not impressed by how the characters are presented until the end when you can almost feel the sadness from Samus.

The weapons are all the same except that they get upgraded every so often. So basiclly it's like using a shotgun with a different bullet size. I like the weapons but I was hoping for better upgrades. Oh, well. Hope for the better.

So, that's my review. Tell me how you thought it was.

A good review, but I felt you could've been a bit more thorough on some points. For example, you didn't really go into the good parts of the gameplay, you just did a brief overview in the first section. So yeah, make it longer, but overall, a great first review!
Thanks. I was slightly rushed cause I was using somebody else's computer and they wanted it back soon. Next time, I'll try to make it with more depth.

Makes sense. When I review, I always do it over about a fornight - not because I find it hard, just because I don't always want to do it. Take it slow, and don't rush. There's no actual deadline.

Any ideas on what you'll review next?
Sadly, I have very few games but I hope to try and get some more to review on. They'll all mostly be older games that most people probably already played cause I never seem to get new games. But I hope to get more and post more later.

Pretty good review, apart from you didn't go into gameplay that much.

Also, this was a terrible introduction to the metroid series. Please see metroid prime or zero mission or any other metroid game for some proper entertainment. They are much more worth it, particularly metroid prime.

Not too bad, you can do better tho =3.

Let me just say that this game killed Metroid series for me... Killed it dead... I'll never be able to replay the previous ones, I'll never be able to take the name seriously again. They shot Metroid in the face, pushed it into a shallow grave, peed on it and left it for the crows...

Decent, but from hearing Yahtzee tear this game to shreds and also hearing G4TV's Morgan also have at it I'm not really impressed with the game itself. Good review though, make sure to add some more depth to the review. I felt like you skimmed the surface, keep at it.
