I'm not trying to wage a war here, but a change would be fantastic.

I've been warned and the put on probation for "Not typing enough text". This is possibly the worst reason to have action taken against you I've ever heard of. I know some spam bots would gain ground, but you'll end up banning them anyway as they become obvious, and they can take up more space than the allotted amount.

I know it's happened to plenty of you out there, I've seen perfectly fine people get probation's or suspensions because they said lol or haha. All this is doing is forcing some people to drag out their thoughts, and if someone already expressed your opinion, we have to quote them, and repeat the exact same thing so you don't get banned for repeated offense. Hell I'm at the point where I type this after short texts, "(opinion), and filler text so I don't get picked up my mod patrol" (or something to that effect).

Another view of my side, what exactly is the rule stopping? As we're doing is increasing the amount of bullshit we have to see on screen. After all this of this, what would you rather end up accidentally reading on an intelligent thread some morons found? Cool Story Bro, or a series of racist words ending with a dead baby joke so they filled their quota?

So to the community who suffers with such a strange rule, I ask you, should that rule be overturned? If so, explain why, if not also explain why, but think of a different more reasonable rule that could be used to replace this one.

Edit: Also do you think we should be able to delete our own posts if we so please? I've seen it done on other forums, and the worst that happened is that you're a little confused because someone hid their shame, but it didn't work too well as people quoted them anyway. It's not a demand, this is merely a request.

No, it's a good rule.

It stops people from making asinine posts like 'Cool Story Bro', 'Lolwut' or 'TL:DR'.

EDIT:

I'd like a rule that stops people adding joke options into polls.

YesNot a chance.

There is nothing more annoying then when someone just puts "yes".

Its there to keep the forums a more interesting place.

And stops people talking like youtube commenters - e.g. "Shit",
A frequently used term, and a pitiful excuse for constructive feedback.

No. Because, as MiracleOfSound said, there's too many idiots who spam stuff like "this" or "Qft" and add nothing to the discussion. It's basically spam.

The very idea of a forum is to have discussion. While "lol" and "haha" are great transmitters of digital emotion, they aren't very conducive to discussion. Neither are words like "Yes" or "I agree" without maybe even a token amount of justification on WHY you feel that way...

Just my 2 cents.

The only time it really bothers me is when someone sums up my opinion perfectly, so I quote them, but then I'm not allowed to just say "This", I have to flesh out my sentence with needless words that end up conveying the same meaning.

Well i personally dont see the point in having a load of hahas or lols considering they add NOTHING to the thread. On the thing of someone already expressing your opinion, why do you feel the need to post in that case anyway? I always see the point of a thread is to gather as many different opinions as possible, if someone feels the same why, why dont you elaborate on it? Strengthen it with somthing they havent thought of...

I'd prefer to read interesting things[footnote]I am aware of the hypocrisy, danke dummkopf.[/footnote] than reading the same response over and over.
If it's interesting and short you won't get modded, if it's just "yes" or "this" you should.

Why do you need to post if what you were going to say has already been said? Elaborating moves the discussion on.

Oh Miracle, you so funny. :D

OT: I don't mind the rule, it seems fair enough. Provided you support your post, you don't have an issue.

No it needs to stay because i think i makes one actually think out there opinion rather than just posting just one word statements.

It's a good rule if you ask me. It doesn't just prevent spambots, it also stops people from leaving uninteresting, uninspired comments that would disrupt the flow of discussion.

yes...

I think it should stand because it does get annoying when people don't explain their answers.

On topic: The rule is there for a reason. Don't be an asshat that spouts Lol at things and actually put a little more effort into your posts. It's not even particularly hard to post enough that you won't get probated/suspended, so I don't really see the problem here.

And if you believe that it's "forcing" you to drag out your thoughts on a matter, just don't comment. If you have nothing to add, don't comment and you won't cop any mod wrath. It's rather simple to follow, no?

Oh it goes on alright. Doesn't make it any less annoying!

I hate it when someone goes to the effort of typing a long post that has obviously had a lot of thought put into it, and some complete moron responds with:

'Cool story bro'

It makes me want to reach through the web, pull thier stupid faces into the monitor and watch as thier tiny brains get fried by electrical discharge.

Ahem. But instead I just hit 'report'.

This is one of the reasons I hate this rule, especially if you forget to make that pointless sentence, then congratulations you have yourself a probation.

And sure we'd probably have more of those one-liners, but if they really gravitated to this place, don't you think they'd find a way around it? That and I'm not saying abolish the rule entirely, but maybe reshape it to be more reasonable. For example as the fellow I'm quoting said, someone quoting someone and typing this afterwords signifies this is exactly how they feel on the matter. Why make someone waste their time typing out a crap sentence that's going to be ignored or hated because it's a repeat anyway? After all the Mods actually read these things, you're telling me they can't make the exception between this and simply some asshole who's typing those gay one-liners?

I completely agree in that respect. It would irk me to no end to see a great post that took quite a while to write get the ol' "wat" treatment.

I once posted a comment then realized I was way off the mark. Given this forum I deleted the words and replaced them with "nvm"-never mind.

A mod took offense to this.

Do not punish me for your forum lacking a feature.
