This is less a "fix" and more of a "Workaround" for PS2 system owners. My apologies if this has already been suggested elsewhere. I did a search, but cannot find any mention of it.
As all PS2 owners of RB and/or GHWT know, to get a microphone to work it is necessary to plug in a regular controller (to make the choices for the microphone player.) The problem is that it leaves you a port short for plugging in your guitar peripherals. Thus, you are stuck with only one guitar, drums and the vocalist.
Here's a simple workaround. It requires you to buy a "multi-tap"(available from Games Stop or the equivalent stores in your area) and will run you about $20. You can also buy them online (here, for example: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Multi-Tap-controller-line/dp/B00004TNDY). The multi-tap plugs into your first normal controller port AND the memory slot above it. It provides you with four outlets to plug in normal controller plugs AND a memory card slot. Plug your two guitar controllers into any of the slots. Now plug a regular controller into a third slot. Finally, plug your drums and microphone into the USB slots. Your PS2 should automatically recognize the normal controller as the mic control, thus enabling your microphone to operate along with both guitars and the drums!
I have tested this sucessfully on two PS2s.
Please note that you will need the proper multi-tap for your system to make this work. In my case, the multi-tap was for the "slim" PS2 (7000 system, I believe.) For older systems, you will have to check carefully for the correct type of multi-tap.
