I was wondering is it ok to get Russian prison tattoos if you have note been to Russian prison. I personally think they look cool, but I don't know if I should get one. Heres a link to a picture in case you don't know what I mean.

Edit: Sorry I forgot the link http://dmitryscloset.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/russian-mafia-tattoos-5.jpg

That's a very interesting picture, slightly invisible though.

If it's some kind of gang related tattoo, then it's a bad idea.

Edit: Oh wow they look terrible, even ignoring the risk of a sudden stabbing, dont get one.

Maybe its only visible to those whove been in a Russian prison
I was wondering why everyone else was acting like they couldn't see it.

OT: Awesome looking tatoos, OP.

No link, OP. And no you shouldn't. Getting tattoos are stupid anyway IMO, unless it's just a minor thing (a tattoo of your kid's nme on your forearm or something like that is fair enough). But gang tattoos? That's just asking for trouble. And prison tattoos are even worse, especially if you run into any ex-cons... Not to mention if any prospective employer sees it and knows what it means. It could seriously damage your credibility.

No, you shouldn't get a Russian prison tattoo unless you've been to a Russian prison. Otherwise, you're just some wannabe loser who's sporting a tattoo that he didn't earn in anyway whatsoever. POSER.

Go to Russia and then go to jail and get one. Boot soles + ashes + piss = ink

Edit: Also if you get one and a "true" Russian mafia member sees your tat and calls you on it they will burn that shit off.

Do NOT get them. The Mafya can/will either cut them off or kill you.

Like everyone else here has said, it's a bad idea. Also, if you have to ask a "Should I, shouldn't I" question about tattoos, you probably shouldn't get them in the first place.

It's suppose to be symbolic for time spent and for what crime in Russia, but I don't see why someone who just thinks it is cool looking can't get it. Just expect confusion from people who may have been in a Russian Prision.

First off - How old are you mate?
I'm not one to enforce tattoo ideology upon anyone, though what I do warn people away from is getting tattoo styles because;
a) they look cool
b) the style is trendy (think like tribal tatts on white guys, Southern Cross tatts on moronic aussie "patriots")

I'm 25 and got my first tatt at 24, I took AGES deciding on the design because it is a lifelong decision and I know you must hear that over and over again but try having a good long think about it. Are you going to still dig Russian criminal tatts that hold no intrinsic or personal value to you whatsoever apart from aesthetics?

This is just my personal opinion and I'm sure a lot of people would have something negative to say about my ink but fact of the matter is that my designs relate to me, my upbringing and who I am.

So if you're sure - do it. But at least maybe think about it a little longer yeah?

Well, like...someone on here said, if you aint in the russian mafia, you havent been to a russian prison, or you cant even speak russian. pulling off the "i earned this" will be very very hard. And they will burn that shit off your body if they see it. and i think you know who "they" are.

A couple of things about tattoos:

1. Getting a tattoo is painful and expensive. Getting a tattoo removed is significantly more painful and expensive. How much do you really want this? My suggestion is that, especially if you want to get a big, difficult to cover tattoo, wait for two years and see if you still want it.

2. Russian prison tattoos have a specific cultural meaning. Are you sure that's a meaning you want to espouse, especially since you haven't earned it yourself? (I'm assuming you're not currently planning on being incarcerated in Russia, of course -- if you are, well then, go for it.) Furthermore, are you sure that's a meaning you want other people to think you espouse?

3. Russian criminals don't look kindly on people who get tattoos without earning them. You probably won't run into any trouble, but...

I think prison tattoos are fascinating and beautiful, but I kind of think it's something you shouldn't get unless you're actually part of the criminal culture.

first off you will look like a poser getting one. secondly if you do run into someone that knows what the tattoos are, you might get in a bit of trouble and yes they might cut them off you or kill you for it.

however you could get a similar one in a different spot and it might be ok since it's not in the correct spot
