A thought occurred to me this morning. Whilst playing Fallout: New Vegas I noticed I would save at one of three points. (1) When I was nearing a quest area and didn't want to be ambushed and lose my trek over, (2) when I was wondering the wasteland and I couldn't remember the last time I saved, and (3) right before I would do something "game changing" like sneaking through an off-limits door or punching a guy in the face for being a prick... (not so much the latter as I only have an unarmed skill of 10)

Now I want to know when you guys save if ever.

I barely save at all.
Maybe one save every hour?

My brother, however. Hohooo. His record for saving was I think one (Proper) save every 10 minutes.

We now have almost four thousand saves on oblivion.
It takes 5 minutes to load up the list.
Yes, it's annoying, but also awesome.

Normal saves, once every 20-30 minutes or when I complete a mission.
But quicksaves, every 30 seconds or so, I developed the habit back when I was playing Morrowind several years ago and it didn't fully agree with my computer and crashed fairly regularly.

I save before I try something stupid. Otherwise I rely on the auto-save, which is a dumb dumb way to play.

I, unfortunately, have a habit of only saving when i turn off the game, so I end up going back and doing things over a lot.

Most of the games I end up playing have some of auto-save which I never bother to turn on/off, and will only save 'as and when I remember to do so' which is not that regularly because I have a horrific memory :(

Most of the 360 games play have save points and I'll do it everytime, noting how bad I am remembering (as already mentioned above).

Voted for "before it hurts me" but I also save if it took me a long time to get someplace. I absolutely hate re-doing long or difficult travel in a game. It's so tedious to me.

I tend to quicksave a lot, but I will do a "full" save if I think I may have made a bad choice or low on health, so I can go back to the quicksave if I found out I've done something wrong.

I once got rather annoyed with Mass Effect 2 as it donkeyed around with my quicksave and made it load the same point as my long save, and I had to redo a section as I forgot to go save a character (going for paragon) ><

Just when I think there's an 'Oh Snap' moment about to happen that could go either way, although sometimes you can't predict when it's happening and you've got to pray to Mario that it autosaved recently.

These days, I'm saving whenever the game deems it appropriate. Fucking checkpoint-only system needs to DIE, at least in FPSs. Jesus Christ.

If, in good games, I get a choice... often, though I sometimes forget if a part is particularly exciting. But I looooove the quicksave button.

If the devs give me one. Grr.

In Doom 3, I save roughly once every 20 seconds. Seriously...

My save folder is larger than the actual game...

In games that crashed fairly regularly every 5 min or so. In games I never had a crash in, whenever I feel it's appropriate sometimes with hours between.

I save a lot, depending on the game. I have saved something like 1700 times in Oblivion, and most of those are on two characters.
