They're both films about a slobbish rock musician who gets kicked out his own own band and replaced. Said rocker than proceeds to create a new band. Dewey Finn recruits Schoolchilden...

And Robert "Fish" Fishman joins the garage band of a relative.

They both have highly irresponsible adventures with their young charges before having a rock-off against the band who deposed them. In the Rocker, it is Vesuvius, a band full of Americans who have mysteriously developed British accents in the meantime.

IMO, The Rocker is a School of Rock clone. Even the main character having a fish-based name is a pretty clear hint of that. But I do kinda prefer it. It has a more cynical tone, with really cutting digs at the music industry, especially pretentious music videos, and some absolutely brilliant lines of dialogue.

Robert 'Fish' Fishman: How dare you?
Moby Type Kid: Excuse me?
Robert 'Fish' Fishman: How dare you call yourself a musician?
Moby Type Kid: Loads of bands use drum loops!
Robert 'Fish' Fishman: Loads of elevators play Celine Dion - that don't make it right. Now get your Devil Box outta here!
And as the kid leaves, Fish mutters "Moby... Dick."

Haven't see The Rocker, but I did enjoy School of Rock, even if it wasn't one of Jack Black 's great works. "I have been touched by every single one of your children. And I'm pretty sure I've touched every single one of them."

I voted the "haven't seen them both" option, but since I hate SNL actor comedy, I'm pretty sure I would hate the Rocker. From the few bits of it I have seen, it embraces stupidity in that Peter Griffin level of obnoxiousness, and I'm supposed to laugh at it. Well I don't, so I'm saying School of Rock is the better movie by default.

I just last week rewatched School of Rock. It kicks ass. I don't know anything about The Rocker, but I can pretty much guarantee that it doesn't hold to a candle School of Rock. That one is just a great, fun movie.

This might sound weird, but while The Rocker has a few SNL actors, most were never on SNL and those who were on SNL merely hosted 1-2 episodes or appeared in a single episode or something similar. Wheras School of Rock has at least one main actor who was on SNL for years.

I've seen both and why I don't think either are too bad,I tend to remember School of Rock more. Maybe it 's a bit of nostalgia or the fact that I've seen School of Rock more often but I really like that movie and I feel it would hold up if I did watch it again.

I thought the main actor in the movie was an SNL alum? Well, anyway, it's the stupid humor kind of movie, and I sort of generally categorize those as "SNL comedy" movies. The Happy Madison films for example, or anything that Will Ferrell does *shudders*. It's taking whatever schtick got them famous on SNL, and milking that dead horse as long as they can in movie format. I don't like them, and find them painfully unfunny. And every clip of The Rocker I saw, had this theme/mood to it. So I'm still standing by my statement that it was shit.

School of rock was a blast. While I can say I haven't seen the other movie, I still have to throw my hat into the ring for Jack's great performance

Was the one funny thing in the whole film. So even though I haven't seen it, The Rocker wins by default.

I've only seen School of Rock, and even that like 10 years ago the last time. I've seen posters for the Rocker, and they just seem... limp. Not over the top enough. Not interesting. If a movie is poking fun at the ridiculousness of the rock'n'roll scene, it better do it crazily enough, and the posters for The Rocker just seem kinda "nah".

I like them both. They're just dumb fun. The Rocker wins though. It's a real comedy movie. School of Rock seems more like someone gave money to a rock fan to make a dumb movie about rock. The School of Rock song is awesome though. So it wins that.

For me, School of Rock was better to watch with others and The Rocker, once I finally did see it, was better to watch on my own... Then again, I saw the formal more time than the latter, so there's that...

Other than that, now I got <url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP7kExN8LFA>Zach's Song stuck in my head again...
