Schools as is, barely teach you anything you didn't already know since 8th grade. (Unless you weren't paying attention or watchign to much sponge bob)LiL said:of course schools shouldnt be segregated by gender, or by anything at all. I understand what your saying to an extent about the whole dating thing, because for kids that can get in the way, but that is part of being a kid is learning to interact with the opposite sex. there is more to learn in school then what the teachers teach you i.e social skills and interacting with peers
Males have physically greater gaps between our left and right brain hemispheres than those of females. So we actually think and learn differently.joystickjunki3 said:Your head may in the right place in terms of intention, but boys and girls must learn how to properly interact on a social level if they are to succeed in life. Most of us, if not all, learn this sort of cross-gender social interaction from our school days. And besides, the genders don't learn all that differently from each other as far as I know.

I sorta prefer there be classes based on things you actually need to do in real life, instead of those damned art class you have to do for 9 years in my district.Hell, I remember my parents saying they used to have a class to teach you how to do your taxes in highschool, as back then they had 3 responsibilites. (the teachers*)
1. Can you read?
2. Can you add?
3. Can you do your taxes when you get a job?
In highschool I toke a Shop class specifically dealing with working with metal, and a drafting class.mike1921 said:I sorta prefer there be classes based on things you actually need to do in real life, instead of those damned art class you have to do for 9 years in my district.Hell, I remember my parents saying they used to have a class to teach you how to do your taxes in highschool, as back then they had 3 responsibilites. Well done! It's akin to screaming "racist" out loud during Black History Month (check your calendar...)sneakypenguin said:No not by race, but by gender.
EDIT
Also segregating classes not schools(thread title is to catch eyes)
We where discussing this in my business ethics class today...
-The reason that they are called "the formative years" is because it is the time that children are learning their core reactions to their immediate surroundings; 'setting their default parameters' in computer operating system philosophy. I'd say that the 'reinforcing preconceptions' toggle should be set per child by the administrating parent, not by some sweeping, sociology-biased bureaucratic gesture.sneakypenguin said:...I personally find separating schools/classes by sex to be a good thing, boys and girls both learn differently so why not teach them differently? It would also lessen the distraction of the whole middle school/high school dating/flirting crap that goes on...?
Well, I do believe those classes should be mandatory, or at least a 'version of them'.mike1921 said:There's a difference between a shop class that is probably optional and being forced into learning how to paint and do other crap that's useless for most people.
There's a difference between choosing between a bunch of electives, and being forced to do one thing that's worthless for almost everyone. Also, choosing a sub-category of shops is barely even a choice.Every school I went to had electives, that you were requried to complete X number of credits for, and shop classes tend to be in those lists. They are 'mandatory' but they 'arent'. Aka youg et to 'choose' which one you want to try...
no there isn't... Below that. yea, But there is kinda a point to it.
...using a paint brush as an introduction to working with metal? But then, I remember having to take shop classes pre-highschool to, so if anything it sa type of 'introduction' to them,
A kid's not gonna be interested in shop because he loves coloringso you can later show interest in something you may not have had...
????But those types of classes shhouldn't hang anyone up for getting into highschool...
My point was more along the lines of how much differently do we learn, but I'll accept that as evidence for my speaking too soon.Sewblon said:Males have physically greater gaps between our left and right brain hemispheres than those of females. ........You assume that's the reason they voted?Face it: even if you are in the same room as the fabled females, you'll still never get laid.
So, "they have no rights" so "it right to take away what little rights the school gives them' when those rights are minor and removing them helps nothing.Segregate public schools and enforce strict uniforming. Hell, they are opening gay-only schools in illinois. Children have no rights until they turn 18. Private schools may do as they wish.
I always thought so, most of my friends came outside of school.... But apparently class time is the only time they can socialize. Seems like most(many) on here are like "oh noes how will I evar see teh girlz if they aren't forced to be around me?!"stompy said:I'm just wondering, but don't people actually communicate with the other gender outside of school?
