The most important part of an band to me is...the vocalist. I don't give a shit how good the drummer/guitarist/bassist/saxophonist/trumpeter/etc. is. I only like most bands that I like (Pearl Jam/Stone Temple Pilots/Soundgarden/Nirvana/Rush/Many Others) because of the vocalist. Hell, I don't even know some of the musicians who aren't the vocalist for my favorite bands. Seriously...should I be ashamed?

No, everyone likes different things. I'd prefer an amazing vocalist with an average guitarist rather than the other way around.

That's not to say that I dislike amazing guitarists though.

I don't mean to be rude, but if someone has an opinion on such a trivial matter, I tend not to care.

Some of the greastest bands don't have any vocals (for example karma to Burn)........ But i guess you wouldn't like them. A good singer can make an average band great though.

Its cool! Despote I liking all members of my favourite bands, the truth is that its if the vocalist that influences most each band and its the one that causes biggest impact when he/she is replaced.

Nope, if you like it then you like it.
Some people might find your reason different, i know people who only like the bands based on the Bassist.
You shouldn't be ashamed over your taste in music.

Totally, it's all about the bass player. The vocalist is just a frilly little centerpiece ;)

Vocals are definetly an important part of music, but instruments (as a whole, not the individual instruments) are still bigger.
They create the framework within which the vocals work, and they can solo more powerfully and easily.

It's not really that uncommon. Most people here vocals first and identify with lyrics before the music.
I only started paying closer attention to instrumentation when I started playing instruments.
For example, Rush is a great example on your list. Geddy Lee is an incredibly hilarious singer with his high range and is really good, albeit his unique voice does throw some people off. But as great as his vocal talent is, his bass playing far succeeds it.

But you like what you like. Anyone who tells you your opinion on art is invalid is a moron. Art is subjective.

Nope. The vocalist is called the lead man for a reason. It's just as important as all the other parts of a band.

And might I say, you have great taste in music =D

The vocals in songs are in my opinion the most important part of the song.
The guitar hooks you in, the drums sustain the rhythm, the bass provides the...bass, but the vocals are what keep you coming back.

It's why I wish Daron from SOAD would go back to just being the guitarist.

You are entitled to your own opinion, so you shouldn't be ashamed at all - people like different things!
Besides alot of stuff really emphasizes the vocals as the most important part: so you are probably in the majority.
I'm probably only aware of the instrumental parts because I play instruments as well as sing.

Sidenote: the people who voted no don't seem to be saying anything in the thread...
