I have a Sansa fuze running rockbox right now;
but the the headphone jack is cracked and looks like it's getting worse;
I was thinking about getting an ipod touch, my concerns are:

Price is kinda high...

4th gen coming soon (iphone 4 comes out the 24'th)

why do we have to pay for upgrading os????

will the newer apps (released after 4gen) work on 3rd gen??

how much space do most apps take up?

I need your opinions:
Should I get an iPod touch????

A hacked iPod Touch is one like something you would see in a sci-fi movie. Do that.

I don't suppose you could google the vast majority of that information without having to created a thread?

OT: Yea why not, I don't care if you get one or not and why do you care if some random strangers on the internet say yay or nay?

I never like the reliability of an Ipod, and touchscreens always seemed like they would get dirty extremely fast, but whatever you want to do with your money, do it.

I'd recommend the iPhone instead. The 3G is a huge advantage.

I thoroughly believe my ipod touch stopped me going insane over these last few weeks.

I had surgery on my back just over a week ago and haven't been able to do anything except lie there, I've only just recently been able to sit down for a few minutes at a time.

With my 32 gig first gen ipod touch allowing me access to films and the net it kept me sane.

I recommend you research exactly what you want to do with it before you make any purchase, if it's just for music I'd get a classic.

If I ever upgrade to a new gen I'm jailbreaking my first gen cus they are so tasty!

A decent mobile phone will just serve as good for music as any audio pocket device, that is my take however.

So yeah, it's your choice, no one can say anything for it.

Agreed, I'm waiting for some serious hardware upgrades in the Android department coming down in price, and once they do, BAM! I'll be integrating it on my Iron-Man suit.

Actually, to upgrade from OS3 to iOS4 is free... Just putting that out there.

Also, hack it. It's unbelieveably more awesome. And no, I don't use it for piracy, but the added functionality is simply awe-inspiring. Plus you get to feel like you're better than your friends. OK, maybe not, but I swear, once you hack, you'll never go back.

Just got to the store and ask them. Then actually fiddle around with one. Then say "Do I really want this in six months?"

If you fall in love with it and it's a yes, go for it

But if everybody googled there would be far fewer threads...

Anyway, yes, and wait for 4th gen. Don't buy the 4th gen, as it won't be worth it, but the 3rd gen prices will go down.

I recomend getting one of the bigger ones (mine is 64)

Apps take up only a few megabytes, I have dozens and they are barely even visible in the "how much shit is filled up" bar.

As for whether to hack, a friend of mine did, and the features don't frankly seem worth voiding the warranty, but of course there may be better hacks out there.

I recomend getting a battery app (there are quite a few free ones) to tell exactly how much you have left, the xkcd and wikipedia apps are good to.

There is a free app that can do almost anything a piad one can do, but it might not be as good, or it could be better. Keep that in mind.

Read App reviews before you download.

Sorry if this is too long.

Next to my computer my iPod was the best thing I've ever bought. Then I jailbroke it and it managed to get even better. Definitely get one.

No dont. Just because everyone else has got sucked into this iPod crap doesnt mean it is good.
If you just want music, get a decent, basic MP3 player.

Videos are only good for one or two views, games are fairly rubbish and internet...do you really miss it when you leave the house?

I wouldn't. In my opinion they are ridiculously overpriced. They aren't bad, just way too expensive for what they are.

If music is your main use. Get an mp3 player that can have a higher quality than 128kb/s. You don't notice the difference on ear buds but on good head phones or a stereo you do.

The other features you will probably never use. If you have a phone that can play music just put a decent sice SD card in that, it will serve you much better. Before you buy do you research. If you still think that an iTouch is best for you by all means buy one.

But whatever, it's your money.
