So, here's the deal.

I have enough money, right now, to pre-order Skyrim, there's one big problem, though.

If I were to pre-order it for my PC, I can almost assure you it won't run, or it will run with lag 95% of the time, even Oblivion lags on my PC. I could save up for my PC and play it then, which will probably be 11/11/12 most likely.

If I were to pre-order it for my PS3, I wouldn't have any problems hardware wise, but, there would be NO MODS. One of the best things about TES IV was the fact you could mod it anyway you want, and, lets face it, Vanilla Oblivion is pretty dull sometimes. That doesn't mean Skyrim would "need" mods to be cool, so I'm a little confused.

Should I get it? Should I not? Should I just sell all my belongings to live a peaceful life out in the wilderness? Help!

Everybody should get Skyrim. /thread

If your pc can't handle it get a better pc.
If you can't get a better pc then get it on the PS3, it will still be worth it.

My computer currently won't be able to handle it but im getting it for PC anyway, i'll just have to save up for a new rig.

And yes, I did just say I would buy an entire new computer just for one game.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Of course, I'm not buying a new computer just for Skyrim, but to play other games as well. But Skyrim's release is what is pushing me.

I wouldn't pre-order it just because I don't believe it until I see it. I was impressed a lot by the E3 footage, but I'm still sceptical because I don't like buyer's remorse and some game companies are untrustworthy.

I'd recommend getting it for PS3, it's not like there are gonna be many mods on day one of release, let alone decent ones. Play it on PS3 for a few months or whatever then pick it up on PC when it's cheaper and has more game changing mods and patches to fix the inevitable bugs. That's what I did for Oblivion.

Basically you must get Skyrim. The PC version would be the superlative one for mods, patches and GFX, mouse/keyboard, etc, but failing that you should get whatever version you can.

Skyrim > No Skyrim

As flailing suggested above, there's always upgrading your PC. Sell the PS3 for a GTX570 and 4GB DDR3, enjoy. Alternatively you could always sell a kidney [http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_technews/20110602/tc_yblog_technews/17-year-old-sells-his-kidney-for-ipad-2].

I say pre-order it on the PS3 now, save up for a PC and assuming you get it when you say you will, it'll be available for PC at a decent price.

Just buy the PC version, that's going to be the best one by far... not only is it mod-able but it will scale to your machine, and as you get better hardware it will look better. Then what you do is upgrade incrementally, as you can afford it. Plan ahead, figure out what you want the end specs to be, and get the parts over time... the longer you wait, they cheaper they'll be. Depends on what you have now, and what parts you can replace without starting from scratch.

Of course I'm assuming you build your own PCs, right? :)

*Disclaimer* I own a PS3... but I wouldn't play an amazing game like Skyrim on it instead of my PC :)

PS3.
The only reason I would get it for PC is if your into the amazing mods the community will do. But honestly this games looks good enough on its own.

Um, if YOU don't know what you want how is someone ELSE's opinion based on very little information going to be any more useful?

Instead of asking people what you should do, you should be trying to figure out what's best for you--nobody knows you like you. Do you like playing PC games a whole lot? Might be better to save up and upgrade that PC in the long term because there are bound to be lots of other PC releases you'll want a better machine for. Is saving up for a new PC a super-long-term project for you, and you'd REALLY enjoy having a big new game to play (even on lowest settings) while you wait? You might be happier if you get Skyrim right away.

I personally don't play games on consoles--the platforms do not appeal to me and never have, so I would personally suggest getting Skyrim for the PC. However, I'd like to make an additional point: This is a Bethesda game. Bethesda games are NOTORIOUS for being FILLED with all sorts of bugs and issues, many of which are only fixed by community patches.

PC if you can. The mod community around TES is enourmess.
I actually installed Oblivion solely to play this mod:

If you cant afford to update your PC just buy the PS3 version first.

Save up for the PC. In the meantime the mod community will do what it does best and when you find yourself able to play it, all the "Top X mods for Skyrim" lists will be out. Keeps you from trying to do trial and error with new mods.

This is going to sound a tad silly but:
"IF MY COMPOOTER DUS FORLOUT FREE ON DA HIGH SETTINS WILL IT DO DA SKYRIM ON DA MEEDIUM SETTINS? HERP DERP!"
Because I don't want to buy a new computer,
But I'll be damned if I'm gonna play it without mods.

Can you post your specs? Perhaps we can help with looking for some cheap upgrades.

Also, run CCleaner and Defraggler and check if there are new new drivers for your MB/GPU/peripherals.

To be fair, I told a little white lie, my current system is very old and im in desperate need of a new PC, Skyrim is the game that has pushed me over the precipice however. (I'll also be able to resubscribe to Rift and play The Witcher 2)

Get it for PS3 now. Enjoy it, then get it for PC once you have one that can run it.

Simple.

I don't see the point of pre-ordering for the PC. The PC version's trump card is the mod community right? Well that gear won't really start kicking for atleast a month AFTER release (modders gotta play right?).

So it boils down to whether or not you want to play the game on release or a couple months later. If you can't: Get the PS3 version.
I, for one would hold out for a month or two, and get the full-shebang on a good PC. But your choice.

you HAVE to get Skyrim, its the only game i have been this excited for, i personally am getting it for PC, but get whatever version you can that will be best

you could always get it on PS3, then when you do upgrade, get it for PC, chances are it will have dropped a bit in price, and you can have fun with the mods etc
