I was wondering today whether or not the levels of advertising in our society today is healthy. Especially ads that are targeting children and teenagers, I don't know if many of you remember cigarette ads on television or in the Sunday comics but those were banned. I think maybe it's time to regulate advertising further.

Absolutely not. Advertising is how television companies keep their channels financed, and how they keep them free for us to watch. Internet advertising helps keep websites like The Escapist up and running without having its members forced to pay registration fees.

Now, advertising in Video Games... I have a slightly different opinion on that. Nowadays we are seeing much more product placement and in-game billboards advertising real-life products. As it is today, it's not much of an issue. But if game companies are going to start flooding the game I paid for with advertising, I expect to pay less for the game.

You have free T.V.? I pay for cable myself as well as Tivo to skip said ads, as for advertising on websites I do agree with that.

Advertising in games and movies has been steadily increasing along with the price of those luxuries.

Two words: "clinically proven."

So, yes, it should be.
