Everyone lets take a step back to 02. The Tony hawk series was riding high (no pun intended) it was a great game it was everywhere. Then in 05 Mr big skate came along and punched it in the face then kicked it in the balls and beat it with a baseball bat, Then MR big skate's friend came along in 08 beat up tony hawk, Took away his skate park and now their the bouncers for it, They changed the name from tony hawks skatepark to skates skatepark. (Disregard the stupidness of that little peice of litrature)

So Thats how i wrote my idea of what happened to tony hawk, and actully i liked skate, It wasnt none of that 3000000 buttons like tony, You have 4 buttons and your right analog stick, The camerea did become a pain in the ass some times but it never stopped being fun for me.

So what do you like better Skate series or Tony hawk Series?

I'm really not sure :p
I liked the Skate games because they were realistic, unlike the tony hawk games where i could have my character (who was a purple skeleton) do a backflip over a helicopter. But I probably got more entertainment from the TH games

I was always much better at the Tony Hawk games, but on balance I probably prefer the Skate series. I'm not really bothered about realism - if I was, I'd be out there on a skateboard instead of playing video games - but the Skate games give a greater feeling of accomplishment on successfully landing something difficult... mainly because the required accuracy on the right stick is inherently more difficult for a left-handed person like myself.

I agree, like fighting games they reward you for mashing the controls randomly.

Oh and Nanissimov, how many threads do you plan on starting today? Especially since vs. threads like this aren't really encouraged by the mods.

Grew up playing the original Tony Hawk games and loving the soundtracks and unlockables. Gets my vote.

No, the reward for a skater is pulling off a realistic combination on a sweet object/spot. That's why Skate gets my vote. When I can't go out and skate for real because of poor weather, I can turn to the next best thing!

Skate gets my vote, though I will not have all that realism crap as the argument, its a computer game it is not real, it is more fun and challenging to play but in no way realistic, if it was realist the char I made to match my height, build and appearance would be as bad on a skate board as I am, with zero balance, and he would not get up every time he got run over or totalled on a jump.

skates fun and challenging, THs can be played by a monkey mashing buttons

yeah the tony hawk series lost its entertainment after tony hawks underground, and lost there motivation to improve the gameplay since... well, the first one. and if they want to stand a chance in hell competing with skate 2 then they need to change the gameplay. make it more realistic.

Well, of course an ultrarealistic game wouldn't be fun. Who wants to play a fat guy trying to skate?

I really like Skate alot, play it quite alot aswell, but I do feel like TH had a much better 'atmosphere' around it. Skate's kinda like what Oblivion is for RPG's. It looks and plays better than its predecessors, but lacks in creativity and atmosphere. Plus I liked TH's soundtracks better.

Tony wins for me, although I'll be the first to admit the series has fallen off GREATLY as time went on. It seems like as time went on they forgot about what made their series so fun.

Tony Hawk 3 remains one of my favorite games of all time with its easy to learn, hard to master gameplay, combo scorefests, stellar soundtrack, and 2 minute runs. I wasn't a big fan of the open-world style that it adopted with #4 (which is odd since I liked Aggressive Inline, another underrated game,) and when they tried to add a "story" and get more into the skating culture, I just zoned out. The only people who are big into the skating culture are SKATERS, and I think that most Skaters would prefer to go out with their friends and actually SKATE as opposed to playing a game that maps intricate moves and movements to analog sticks and buttons. Don't try to appeal to a fan-base that's probably NEVER going to be satisfied with what you create.

Even if the new Tony Hawks games are awful, the old ones more then make up for it, so I would say easily Tony Hawks.
