really depends on the genre/game and what I saw on it before release (gameplay/interviews on the game and such.)

witcher 3 and south park:the stick of truth? had those both on pre-order at full price, love the developers and loved what they did with the games.

about 90% of my steam library? games I got pennies on the dollar in sales or from kinguin/GMG, the average amount of money I spend on a game these days is maybe 6-7 bucks, it's a bit disgusting really how cheap I get them sometimes.

Depends on how much I love that particular type of game or series, how much I want to play it immediately, and how much post release support I think it will get. I kickstarted Pillars of Eternity (didn't start playing until 2 weeks past release and never even touched the beta) and pre-ordered Metro: Last Light. I've bought both Witcher games under $20 even though it's one of my favorite series, and I have only ever bought one TES or Fallout game on release, because I want all the content at once.

If it's a single-player game, I'll pick it up when I'm done with whatever I'm already in the middle of playing. If it's multi-player, I'll pick it up when my friend(s) do(es). Can't really state specific time-frames.

I'm one of those guys who prefers physical copies of games, but there's no specific time that I buys games.

Eleven months of the year, I'm abroad in a country which doesn't have easily accessible console games - so digital copies are really useful for me.

That said the usual digital price of anything on the XBox store is completely out of line which any concept of reality, that pretty much everything I buy is from one of the weekly sales. The only time I've bought anything on the day of release was Geometry Wars 3 and that was only £12.

For oh-my-god-yes-please-give-it-to-me-now games, I buy within a week of release.

For yeah-looks-alright-I-guess games, I wait for the price to drop below $30 or thereabouts.

Digital copies?

It depends on what it is really.

If it's something I can't get anywhere else and I see it digitally then I will snag it. If it's something on sale on PSN then I will get it since it will either be cheaper than where I can get it, or if it's free. Other than that, I mainly stick to physical copies since I will seeing my games lined up on my shelf.

Depends entirely on how much money I have.

If I have no immediate plans, and have been saving for a little, I'll pre-order games I KNOW I'm going to buy anyway, and get the bonuses with them.
Otherwise, it'll happen whenever the money presents itself. Whether its within a few days, weeks or months. After a year I've usually lost interest and moved onto something else, unless that game was spectacular and everyone says I have to have it, in which case I'll give it a go.

*looks through the poll* Shit, I'm one of "those guys" by a fucking landslide!

With that said, I do buy anything Skullgirls-related on Day 1 with no questions asked before or afterwards... So, there's that...

For games I really really want if I have the cash I might buy it when hits $80NZD. This is fairly rare though, I'm patient when it comes to games. Most the time I wait for major sales and definite editions. In some cases if I buy a game cheap, love it, sink a ton of hours into it and think it was worth far more than I paid I'm more willing to drop cash on fluff DLC I wouldn't normally buy or another games from same developer without waiting for a major priced reduction as "payback".

Depends on the rep. of the developers, really. If it's Bethesda, it'd probably be best to wait until the first price drop or sale. If it's a more reliable developer, I'd say that I'd look on places like GOG or GreenManGaming for a discount. I have no preference as far as digital/physical goes.

Due to my games backlog, I'm pretty much to the point I don't buy anything unless it's on sale anymore. I've certainly got things to keep me going while I wait.

There's a few times I've actually bought games just after launch, but they were games I was really, really interested in to begin with and the reviews were good to glowing.

OTOH, with Ubisoft, I tend to wait until they games have dropped incredibly low because while I tend to like their games, I detest Uplay and if I have to deal with it, at least I'm going to deal with it on a steep discount.

I basically get everything in sales. I never buy anything new because I have a huge backlog, and I have a huge backlog because I get everything cheap.
