So, it's almost time for your reemergence Blizz fans and your king of point n' click...
and you Torchlighters are waiting for summer to come around to rub the $20 in their faces!...
and I'm on the fence.
But this is about you, Escapists!: Which game, Diablo 3 or Torchlight 2, are you going to get, which do you prefer if you aren't, and most importantly WHY! (so I can figure a decision for myself).
edit: I'VE MADE MY DECISION!
*ahem* drumroll please....
The answer!.... well I suppose I should list my pro's and con's for each game that I have determined from this thread that settled the most with me:
Diablo 3:
Pros:
-Insured AAA quality, Blizzard maybe many things but one thing for sure is that they don't have a history for low-yielding and uninticing games
-More classes, it's a small reason but at least it allows more variety (5 to TC2's 4)
-/flameshield ARTISTIC DESIGN! Yes people you heard it, I like the art design and feel of this game! From the day Diablo 3 was announced I never understood what the hell people meant when they said Diablo 3 was cartoony. Why?
I don't know about you but that last boss fight was pretty damn bloody.
-This one is both: Constant Online. I list this primarily as a pro, I thought a good while about this and this is what I decided. If you play a video game, think about where you got it from? For most PC gamers its steam right? And what do you need to run steam? Internet! (and yes I'm aware of offline mode, I'm just making a point) When you think about it, most of the time you spend gaming, wether you're aware of it or not, you're probably connected to the internet. The second point of this is that I will most likely be wanting to play this with friends anyway and the added benefits against hackers doesn't hurt either.
-Story. I have always enjoyed the stories of Blizzard games, from SC to WC3 and even into SC2, the storyline of Blizzard games could always stand on their own for me.
Cons:
-Again, the Constant Online. This means that if I happen to not be in a place with Wi-Fi... to bad too sad.
-LCD (lowest common denominator): For years I was a WoW player (BC launch up until last september) so I have had my well earned share of having to experience games being lowered to fit for the LCD, this can hurt hardcore fans in the long run but ultimately since I haven't played Diablo before, this is only a minor complaint from me.
-PRICE: 60$ is understandable, but still, its x3 the amount that TCII is
Torchlight 2:
Pros:
-Dat Indy: Being an indy game gives TL2 a sort of benefit of the doubt. More often than not, I usually enjoy the care that indy makers have for their games.
-Price: Again, $20.
-No DRM: I can play however I want. I can mod, co-op, single-player offline, enjoy the benefits!
-New IP: I love new IP's. They always present new bright opportunities for great games (Dragon Age: Origins, for example)
Cons:
-Artistic Design: For me, TL2 seems cartoony to me, sure it has its fair share of blood but the character designs are a little off for me.
-UI:I'm not going to sit here and say that TL2 has a bad interface, I'm just more familiar with Blizzard's common interfaces and control layouts.
-Less Reliability: While TL2 is cheaper, fresher, and free from AAA burden, these things that make it more desirable, also make it less reliable. Blizzard will always have the cash and time to back up their games. I don't know about Runic and aren't familiar with their works and future outlooks.
That's it!
So what's my decision...
*ahem* (couldn't resist)
DIABLO 3!
Yes, Diablo 3. In the end it came down to the history that I've had with Blizzard, and the experience (negatively) I had with Torchlight 1.
I'm not exactly what you call a Blizzboy (I quit WoW just out of sheer spite against Blizzards rediculous treatment of WoW as a kid's toy to pump $$... but I digress) but I can't lie and say I haven't enjoyed their games.
That being said, Torchlight 2 looks great! And maybe sometime in the future (if it follows its predecesor's footsteps into consoles) I might pick it up.
THANK YOU so much my friends, I'm grateful for the help and I hope you have fun in whatever game you end up playing!
