Diablo 3 for me, torchlight 1 was just a copy paste job of Diablo 1 except with the difficulty dialed down to 0, and from what I've seen of Torchlight 2 it appears to be a copy paste job of Diablo 2 so yeah, although I'll probably pick it up on steam when it goes cheap, like, really cheap...less than 5 dollars cheap.

Diablo 3. I enjoyed Torchlight, but found it rather easy (some of those alchemist skills were just ludicrously powerful), and a bit of a superficial experience overall. It was fun, but never sucked me in like Diablo 2 did over and over again.

Realistically, I will probably end up getting both, though. They are both games I'm quite likely to enjoy, they'll both run natively in OS X (a developer behaviour I want to support with my money), and they should both run very well on my computer... so, I might as well enjoy them both!

I will probably end up getting both eventually, but for now I'm getting Diablo 3.

Not only have I been waiting several years for Diablo 3 to release, but I also enjoyed the beta far more than I enjoyed Torchlight (which was good, just not near being as good as the Diablo series.)

I am still pissed about the always on DRM crap, but it never affected my decision to buy the game, and it doesn't really harm my own playing experience, as I am always online anyway.

Torchlight 2 by default, but ignoring the contrivances and the general fuckery associated with Diablo 3, I think they're on equal footing.

I've already preloaded D3, and I've adapted to Starcraft 2's always-online policies. I don't like them, but I want a stable game with regular patches. As long as I can lock out my characters and play strictly alone and similarly ignore the item auction house entirely, I'll be happy.

DRM tends to frustrate me as much as anyone else, but so long as its occasional authentication checks don't deter from the experience, it'll be fine. The main drawback is, of course, that if Blizzard ever goes bust, they'll have to either patch the item generation engine into the users' personal copies of the game before unplugging anything; or just say "Eff you, thanks for the money, we hope you had fun."

Getting Diablo III for now and Torchlight 2 when it's on sale or something.

I just love the story of Diablo too much, and I liked Diablo II more than Torchlight. Torchlight gives you brainless hack and slash, but the story is just.. there, in Diablo you are swallowed and genuinely intrigued by the story.

I would say Diablo 3 is gonna be my first one, then definitely Torchlight 2. D3 for multiplayer with buds, and TL2 for plain mods and fun. Its not a case where i'll vote though. I will have both

Torchlight 2 is like what Diablo 3 would be if it was, you know, any good :p
The only point I concede to Torchlight over Diablo is the mods, I loved me some fucking mods :) Gave the game so much life, specially the new classes. But still, I do think Diablo is going to be the superior game.

I would recommend Torchlight 2 if you had to choose between the two. Of course, I'd recommend buying just about anything but Diablo 3. If you really want Diablo, go play a mod for Diablo 2.

Dont forget you can play Torchlight 2 with your friends on a LAN without having to connect to the internet. That is one of the things I am most looking forward to. Diablo 3 just seems really sad by comparison (in my opinion of course!)
Of course, but all my gamer friends and myself are computer science majors, we can and WILL figure something out, as we always do.

Both, duh! Their aren't enough Diablo-like games.

Though it'll be diablo first, since it comes out first.

So, it's almost time for your reemergence Blizz fans and your king of point n' click...

and you Torchlighters are waiting for summer to come around to rub the $20 in their faces!...

and I'm on the fence.

But this is about you, Escapists!: Which game, Diablo 3 or Torchlight 2, are you going to get, which do you prefer if you aren't, and most importantly WHY! (so I can figure a decision for myself).
Diablo 3.

I tried to like Torchlight. I really did. I played it for about 6 hours and by the end, I was trying to find reasons to keep playing. The game just doesn't have the soul that Diablo has (Ironically). I kept finding myself running around going "Why am I doing this?" and eventually I couldn't answer the question and stopped playing. Shame really.

Personally, getting both. Why? I play Wow, and blizz is giving me D3 for free.

Torchlight 2 because I don't think my laptop will run Diablo 3 for very long before committing Seppuku. That and I can't have internet on all the time.

I keep waiting for a dungeon crawler to match the dark, gritty atmosphere of Classic Diablo. If there is one, I've missed it. D2 is just too cartoony and bright, not to mention the lack of real challenge.

I don't think Torchlight 2 will be what I'm looking for either.

Diablo 3. The last Torchlight suffered because it had boring levels and no multiplayer. Torchlight 2 should fix the mutiplayer problem but I don't know about the boring level problem.

Also this!

Getting D3 free, so I technically already bought it. Love blizz, not a huge fan of activision-blizz, but their story telling is great as always, and although there are more obvious cash grabs, the soul of the game remains very true to its core, and I like that.

Not buying either, but if someone handed me some extra cash, still neither, but if they also put a gun to my head and said "you have to buy one of these games," definitely D3.

Blizzard anything over a similar non-Blizzard anything 99.5 times out of 100.

You're simply guaranteed to get your money's worth. It's going to be a pleasant, polished experience with minimal glitches and minimal frustration.

Neither because I am a poor college student. I'm only buying one loot driven game this year and that is going to be Borderlands 2.

If I had to choose between the two no matter what I guess I would go with Torchlight 2 because it's cheaper.
