Like the title said, I watched a few episodes of Dragonball Z Kai and I have to say, I'm quite angry that the animation is not what it was advertised to be. The box art, the intro and the end credits made it look like it was a completely redrawn series, much like Rebuild of Evangellion. Instead, it looks like it did when it was first made, not some super awesome redrawn series.

I feel cheated out of my money, and even worse, I feel lied to.

Anyone else get this fantastic little surprise?

But I can't!

Every so often there is 1-2 seconds of footage that looks like the opening credits and it teases and taunts me!

Why would get go through the trouble of shortening the series to 100 episodes, but not reanimate it? what exactly have they achieved by making Kai that I couldn't already have done with the regular DBZ? I can skip filler manually so why did they bother?

I still can't believe that I paid for this!

I haven't even heard of it, I thought Dragon Ball stopped after the GT series. I'll have to look into it.
It did, DBZ Kai is just a shortened version of DBZ. Now you don't have to watch Goku yell for 6 episodes before he turns SS1.

Interesting, I like the idea generally, less conversation, more fighting, BUT, they changed Frieza's voice...which is my favorite character *Other then Vegeta*, and I really liked his old voice, made him seem almost female.
Wasn't aware they changed Freeza's voice. I really did think he was a girl when I first saw the series. XD

Yeah, now it's just 1. Barely :B.

OT: No surprise, because that is what I was expecting as I knew about it as soon it was announced.

Yes, I was happy with the animation and whenever I see the redone animation I tell it to fuck off because that is what gives DBZ it's charm.

290+ Episodes of old school Anime FTW.

Speaking as somebone who watched the original, but has not persued DBZ in years, I will say that shortening it gives the show the advantage of not being TOO FUCKING LONG with all the drown-out and lengthened scenes...such as Frieza transforming or how long the Namek battle during the planet's destruction actually took. It magically makes some of the things wrong with the show not so bad anymore. Maybe you can skip filler, but you definitely would pay alot more for the whole regular series, wouldn't you? Ummm...you don't have it already do you?

There is only one reason I find Dragonball Z Kai abhorrent, and that would be the 4Kids translation. Why? Two words.

Blue Popo.

Seriously, I saw that in the first episode where Vegeta and Nappa landed (where he didn't even have that much of a speaking role) and instantly switched the channel. I know it sounds petty, but come on! Why make him into the Genie from Aladdin?

Theres nothing wrong with DBZ Kai, the updated animation isnt even that important, it probably could have been done better but most of the original animation cells were trashed after the series ended. I like how its shortened the series, while we may miss some things it actually would be an improvement since looking at it now, the original series had so much additional unnecessary padding, DBZ Kai is making it more true to the Manga.

Plus DBZ Kai introduced 3 songs i love
Dragon Soul - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkWdCU6m71A
F (or whatever the hell its called) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnT8k0oXlNI
And Take the Stage! Ginyu Special Squad - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2VyWdhOf90&feature=related

Go watch them. now

Because 4kids finds it racist, then again 4kids isnt really the most trustworthy anime dubbing company, i advise staying clear of anything they touch, go for funimation :D

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed by the lack of new animation, too. I understand that the series is supposed to be kind of a "definitive edition" that's truer to the manga, but still... Given how many times DB has been released on video and DVD over the years, it's hard to see DBKai as anything other than yet another attempt to milk the fanbase.

Come on, Funimation. I just got Dragon Box: Volume 1. Come on.
