As it was Black friday yesteryday. I do beleive it is now officially the Christmas season. Even though I'm in Canada. They have started the tradition up here to a degree to keep the buissness.

So are your local buisnesses decking the halls? My sister pulled everything out of the basement Thursday and basically put everything up the last 2 days.
I'm not into the festivities much. I like to watch a few christmas specials and get my gifts on the 25th. Otherwise I just trudge through it with my hatred of the cold and depression.

So, are things starting to ramp up around you? Christmas wise.
Do you dislike the holidays to some extent like I do?
Or is it just winter that gets to you?

Bah humbug?

Yeah, gotta say here in Finland we start with the Xmas thing in mid of September and that's waaaaay too early. I think the holiday things should start later, maybe 2 weeks before xmas and end a few days before new-years-eve...
My personal opinion but I think people milk out too much out of xmas.

For me it's a mixture. Love the get together and festivity of Christmas itself, not a fan of the cold weather though or the barrage of TV adverts that started a couple of weeks back.

It's alright. It's hard to get in the festive mood when companies are fucking customers in the arse and pushing them further into debt though. I like the giving and receiving of gifts but people are put under too much pressure these days to buy the most expensive shit. TV specials are OK I like the Warehouse 13 specials in particular.

We chopped down our tree and put it up today. Poinsettias and cinnamon brooms within the week! Christmas music on my iPad.

I love the Christmas season.

Eh, I'll tolerate Christmas shit at the start of December. Sadly it started about mid-September though, which was depressing. I actually enjoy Christmas quite a bit, since my oldest brother lives away from home, and my other brother and I are both at university, I'm really looking forwards to all of my immediate family being in the same place and getting smashed.

Christmas shopping, business, and Black Friday not actually part of Christmas. They're just THERE. To base it off of that puts the entire premise of your argument out of order. Let's put this in a little perspective. The annoying habits of people around CHristmas time do not make Christmas annoying. They make PEOPLE annoying. And if more people understood such things, they wouldn't blame innocent holidays, as that is just a red herring.

I love Christmas for what it is to me. I don't celebrate it on any religious level, and I'm not a fan of the huge corporate behemoth it's become. I do, however, love how it's about spending time with family and friends. A little (okay, a lot, of) food and some gift giving where gift giving actually means something is just the icing on the cake.

I enjoy the holidays for the most part. I may not have the greatest relationship with my family but they always welcome me and I enjoy my time with them even if I don't say much. And my grandmothers cooking is pretty awesome.

I've noticed all the supermarkets have put up Christmas decorations. As far as I'm concerned they shouldn't go up until a couple of weeks before, at the most.

An almighty 'meh' from me. Time off is great, time with the family is fine, however, family arguments are not fine, christmas music and adverts suck.

Sorry for ignoring literally every post behind mine but this has to be said; "Starting? Starting? This bull has been 'started' since the end of Halloween! Excuse me for wanting to enjoy the FALL just a bit more before winter, but why does EVERY STORE put up lights, put on the music and dress their employees funny on the FIRST of November?! I would much rather the haunting and spooky stuff of Halloween take over Thanksgivings territory than Christmas to come early, at least then the weather would match the spirit of the season! If we backed up Christmas time any further there really WOULD BE a Christmas in July."

/rant

So... I am not lighting my lights, putting my jolly spirit on, or willfully listening to Christmas tunes until at least December 1st, so I will be back to this thread then.

Side note: I am keeping my eggnog because it is delicious

I love the whole atmosphere of the holiday season, nothing more satisfying than watching my little brothers and sisters light up with excitement when opening their presents. Plus you gotta love the cheesy christmas songs :p

I love the holidays except that I hate that the Christmas stuff starts in early November. The holidays should be just in December so we can appreciate them more.

I'm from Sweden, and every Christmas Eve (which is the 24th here, in your faces) at 3 pm there's a Donald Duck and other Disney cartoon Christmas Special which I've seen every single year of my life.

I know it by heart and I don't really mind it, it's tradition, so I'll have to say I like winter and I like Christmas.

Then again I was born on the 7th of December so that's probably another part of me loving snow and winter.

I love getting together with my family for a celebration of life, regardless of the original theological reasons for the event, it is something that should happen from time to time. That is all I really care about, and if that was the only significant part of the season, I'd be more than content.

The other aspects of the season (24/7 reruns of of the 7,258 versions of Jingle Bells, crazy shoppers fighting over the latest fad toys, businesses competing to sell to previously mentioned crazies, and the same damn color scheme popping up everywhere I look), can all go burn, the sooner the better.

I should hopefully be getting Sibelius music software so I'll be able to actually compose stuff properly xD so I'm covered on the whole materialistic side of things.

Plus it'll be nice to head home and see family and friends again.

I saw them live with my wife last Christmas. We sat 11 rows back from the stage, and I have got to say... It was the best $200 I have spent in my life! They put on one heck of a show!
