Wait, if this is about consoles, why is there a PC option?

No matter, this thread will devolve into an elitist circlejerk before the day is out.

360, love it, pretty balanced console, but that's just my opinion, if you have a good PC then I'd stick to it, consoles may not match your PC's performance

My opinion:

Back in the early days, I would have said X360: Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, Bioshock, etc.
But nowadays, Xbox has got nothing.

Luckily, the PS3 was ready to take over, with games like LittleBigPlanet, Valkyria Chronicles, God of War III, Uncharted, the HD remakes, etc.
However, despite all of this, I still find it somewhat of a betrayal that there is such a lack of JRPGs and platformers on the console.

But these days, with games like Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower, I've been spending a surprisingly large amount of time on my Wii.

In conclusion, the best console for gaming is... the PlayStation 2. And no, that's not a typo.

Since you already have a PC, get a Wii. PC + Wii = Best Combination, unless you're a big fan of Gears of Uncharted.

There are enough Wii exclusives to justify getting one, you just have to look around and see what might interest you. Plus the Virtual Console is good for getting a lot of older games.

So yeah. PC + Wii.

Edit: Actually, wait for the WiiU. Because Nintendo actually understands the concept of backwards compatibility.

I would decide by putting these in my hands one after the other. Unless you plan on using a wheel or a joystick most of the time.

This is also what I would base my decision on. The 360's controller is so much more comfortable and user friendly, especially if you're going to be playing a long game like Skyrim.

Sony hasn't changed the design of their controller in 3 generations of console! I mean look at that thing! It may have fit my tiny child hands when I first played on a PS1 but it just doesn't work any more, who has hands that shape?

I bought a third party controller for the PS3 that is very similar to a 360 controller in terms of size and layout and then I wondered where it had been all my life. The controller is definately an important aspect of the console, I feel.

Simply put:

360 has (arguably) the better overall selection of games and the better controller
PS3 has free online service and a few really good exclusives

It depends what you're looking for.

I'm a 360 gamer, but I recognize that the PC completely dominates on that front.

In finer detail, the 360 is cheap to buy upfront. Sure you have to pay for live but you don't really need it unless you're a diehard multiplayer. And exclusives: if you're not fussed about MGS or Uncharted, then save your cash and get a 360.

Yes the PC, I just wish I could afford a good one :(

And the PS3 controller. My god. It has no weight and the triggers are like marshmallows. If I could play 360 with a PS2 controller, I'd be in heaven!

But most importantly; avatar snap! VS FTW!

PS3 seems to have better exclusives, TBH. Maybe that's just because I don't have one though.
Don't like the squishy triggers though.

The one with better exclusives and a more comfortable controller.
And a better interface. Personally I like the Xbar.

Look at the exclusive releases for each console. If there is a large amount of exclusive releases - for one of the consoles - that you want to play, then choose that console.
Also look at the controller, and see what you like best.

There's no point in looking at the internal hardware differences, because everyone uses the same hardware anyway (in multiplayer, of course).
Xbox has a bigger community, ps3 might have fewer annoying people
One of the consoles is produced by Sony

Has anyone said SNES yet? No? Well then the answer is SNES.

(I do like my PS3 though)
A wise answer a truly great console and sturdy too.

As for this gen well I am lucky enough to own all 3 and a pc (yes I am the superiousist etc) and I generally have sessions where I play the 360 for a few months barely touching the PS3 and then vice versa (the wii and PC I play less often). Both are pretty much of a muchness really but lately I have sided more with the PS3 because of free online play and the fact my 360 has RROD once, I fixed it but I dont really trust it not to blow up at a later date.

Really? Fine, I'll bite.

When it comes to modern consoles I rank them as below.

1: PC
2: PS3
3: Wii
4: Xbox 360

There's really no need to list reasons why anymore.

I have all the current gen systems and used to prefer the Xbox because of the controller but got tired of paying for online and being force feed advertisements. The PS3 controller is way to small and causes my hands to cramp. Recently I bought some oversize grips for the PS3 controller (play maker) and have not turned the Xbox on in over a month. The PS3 is the best console, the controller just needs a makeover. The Wii is also a great system if you just want to have fun, especially with friends and family.

I would probably wait at this point for the next gen.

Xbox is better for online play (and if you are smart/patient you can get xbox live for a year for like 30 bucks) and better customer service.

PS3 has better interface, blue ray player (which quite honestly gets more use than my consoles do for gaming), and is easier to fix yourself. Oh, and picking a PS3 model is easy whereas finding the right xbox model was extremely frustrating.

price wise? Xbox edges PS3 out a bit. both systems cost about the same if you get two nearly identical ones. PS3 has free online, but old xbox games tend to be 5-10 dollars cheaper than their PS3 counterparts.

controller is a matter of preference. i prefer the PS3 controller over the xbox (terrible shoulder buttons). Ditto to exclusives.

Overall I'd give a slight edge to the 360 because I think their consistent quality of online service outweighs PS3's better exclusive games.

If you don't have a blu-ray player, and wanted to get one, then the PS3 regains the edge.
