Poll: Sonic or Mario

Me and my girlfreind had a little debate the other night. She was saying how much Mario was better than Sonic and that Sonic has and never will be as good as Mario. This debate went on for about an hour and we eventualy took to it our freinds for a vote. After an hour or so of asking freinds it turned out that Mario receved the vitroy with 32 votes to 27. Perosnaly, I still stand by the fact that Sonic is a better video game character. What doesq the Escapist think of tihs?

While Sonic's 2d games were good, his more recent 3d games have been...different shall we say, where as Mario's 2d and 3d gamaes have been generally quite good, so I have to go with Mario on this one.

I'm going to go with Mario. Old Sonic games were good but the newer ones are horrible. And Sonic "cool" attitude has bugged me for a while now.

Mario games have always been good, and they always give this happy feeling when I play them. So, yay mario.

I agree with the people saying that the new Sonic games are not as good as the older ones. I've herd a rumor that the new sonic game to be realised is going to be in a 2.5D format so SEGA are trying to go back to Sonic's older roots.

Gotta go with Sonic, the first video game I ever played was Sonic 3D (yeah its not exactly brilliant) and I've been a fan ever since, although im not to keen on the 3D games, im anxiously awaiting Sonic 4 and hope its as good as Sonic 1,2,3 and Knuckles

I prefer Sonic for platformers. The only place Mario wins is with the RPG Paper Mario. However I think Wario is better than both.

Character wise, Sonic is better, if he was a playable character in Super Mario Bros then you'd complete it a single lunch break. Also much harder to kill since he's spiky and can run faster than sound.

Game wise, Mario is better since he has more good games than Sonic, and generally has better games.

I prefer Sonic the character but I'd *much* rather Mario's games. No Sonic game trumps Super Mario World.

I like Sonic better, not because of his games but because there are things to like about him, as opposed to Mario who has absolutely nothing going for him as a character besides his look. Mario is a non-character, whereas Sonic's creators actually spent time fleshing out their creation with behavioral quirks, background and all the things required for people to make a connection with a fictional character.

On a serious note, as a character, I prefer Sonic.

As a character Mario has little to no personality but as a character Sonic doesn't have much in terms of a likeable personality.

Sonic. But that's only because by childhood is screaming in my ear to say it. I enjoyed the TV series as a child.
