[small]Yes, I know that this thread has been done possibly a million times, but I want this one to be different; keep reading as I explain.[/small]

I've been seeing a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog hate lately. Normally I wouldn't give a shit, an opinion is an opinion right? But then I looked closer, and I saw that the people who want old blue to die didn't really have a lot to say about it; they were mostly short responses like "Sonic must die!" or ZP quotes like "Why does Sonic need to exist?" I can't help but feel that the other side's argument isn't really too convincing.

That's why I made this thread. What I want is for you to answer this question: "Should the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise keep making video games?" I'm pretty sure a thread like this has been done before, so I want to do things a little differently.

I want every person who votes to give a detailed reason explaining why they voted as such. No single-sentence responses, no fanboy bullshit. You can argue with anything in anyway you want, just as long as it's not dumb.

Commence.

I feel that Sonic is very barely, just about saveable if they just go back to the original side-scrolling formula. Sure, all the models can be 3D, but keep it side scrolling. That's the one thing I liked about Sonic Unleashed, and I do mean the one thing; they brought back the classic Sonic format, when they felt like it anyway.

Sonic games are outdated. You can't make a decent sonic game nowadays without reverting back to a 2-D side scroller and even then it would be critisised for being lazy.

Time to lay an old friend to rest and move on.

Ask yourselves... Would you get rid of Mario, or Link, if they were having a few bad games? Of course you wouldn't! Don't treat Sonic any differently simply because Sega doesn't really know how to make the change to 3D yet.

Exactly. Also we need more speed if they want to save Sonic. Unless they realize then no Sonic can't be saved.

Well lets face it Sonic can't work like how we expect him to in 3D he is just to fast, which is why Side Scolling works best with him so in simple make sonic a Good Downloadable game full of content and light the haters on fire from the speed of the awesomeness !!

or we could just make a 3D sonic game right because he doesn't need the tweakes it's the levels what you need is a perfect and ingenious level design then you get a great sonic game.

and by the way Sonic Unleashed got lots of hate for nothing the game was alright infact it was fun not great but it did give a small sense of fun.

Its not that i want Sonic to die, its just more of a sence of fleeting nostalgia that has run its corse. Sonic will forever be a major part in my gaming life, but i prefer to let him live in the memory of his glory days, not the recycled rubbish that is released these days.

Not so much for killing, more of a forced retirement. So no more of the "new sonic" games can be made, but we can still talk about and enjoy the old games that were classics as if sonic has never died.

I think he can be saved. Street Fighter 4 took a 2D format and made it look sexy. Sonic should do the same! Back to the old Sonic Games my lads! Make haste!

I will let Sonic live, if Team Sonic can do what it's never done properly and take the series in a new direction. Need for Speed and Call of Duty are two series that have survived, and indeed thrived, because they constantly innovate upon their original concepts. Even when the new direction doesn't succeed, the developers learn new things that make the next iteration better. Team Sonic hasn't done so yet, but they still could.

It's just too much. They give him more and more companions to make it interesting, they give him tv-series and games with new gameplay to keep it fresh. Sonic is dead.

Mario and Link won't die in a while, because they are staying with what they are best at: Games. Sonic has done so much to try and fit in, but it's all just fail.

And it isn't just "a few bad games". It's lots of bad games, bad tv-series, new unlikeable characters, and it's all just to keep Sonic alive.

Mario is still popular because they keep giving his games creative platforming. Link is still popular because they keep giving him creative dungeons to explore and a story that's great. But it's harder for them with sonic. Instead of giving him more creative platforming that can sync with his speed, they implement new gameplay elements that just suck. They can't handle Sonic the Hedgehog anymore.

And I have barely started with the Sonic universe. New characters are constantly being introduced, but it's just so stupid. All their doing is trying to bring in new things to the Sonic franchise, but it's the wrong things. We want new creative platforming fitting of Sonic, not new gameplay that turns it into an action game, nor do we want more boring characters thrown into the scene when we already have way to many.

There's potential in the Sonic franchise if handled correctly, but I don't think Sega can do that. I'll give them 1 or 2 more games top, then Sonic should just die and they can focus on something more original and fun.

As many people above have said (in one form or another), I believe Sonic Games can make a comeback, if Sega gets the formula right for once.

I won't go back and rehash what other people have already said, but Sonic still has the potential for greatness. It really is just whether or not Sega can realise what they've been doing wrong.

Keeping this post short, cuz I'm heading to bed now. Night all, I'll cya... well, later today.

I'm willing to give him a chance. If the next game isn't an improved version of the day stages of Sonic Unleashed fused with the masterpieces of the old SNES games with NO new characters or predictable dialog with bad acting, then its of with his head!

They did actually try to recreate that on the PSP, using a 2D world with 3D graphics, but then they included Shadow into it so everyone automatically hated the game. Shame I don't own a PSP really, as it didn't look too bad.

P.S Thanks for the compliments, UNKNOWNINCOG

P.P.S I don't remember who brought it up, but both Mario and Link have made TV shows which were actually worse then the Sonic ones, so don't use that as a club to beat the poor hedgehog with.

if good sonic games will come out and will bring something new to the world, why the hell not?
otherwise people will just stop buying sonic games and the developers will just kill the brand once and for all....
