Okay, so, I'm sure by now most of you are aware of Super Street Fighter IV. What I want to know is wether or not owners of the original game are going to purchase the 'Super' version just for a few minor changes. Apparently there might be some new game modes, which I'm yet to see much information about accept there will be online team-battles of up to eight people at a time, something called a 'Replay Channel' to let you share and watch replays online, some audio tweaks, a few new stages and about eight new characters, including some from Final Fight.

So, as cool as some of the new characters look, like Juri, will this convince you to re-purchase something you almost already own, and will this convince you to purchase the game if you do not already own it?

Here's a quick look at some new characters:

Oh, and one last thing, it's been hinted at that there will be some kind of 'bonus' given to people who own both games.

Edit: Added link.

DLC comes along and all of a sudden everyones raining on Capcoms sequel parade. I definitly feel there's more than enough content to warrent it being a separate game, but lets face it, if it was just the rebalances and nothing else any serious SFIV player would buy it anyways.

It's not DLC that's made people wonder about this, it's just that the game is being re-sold with only a slight difference to the original. It just seems odd, is all.

They have been doing it for years though, Super SFII had almost exactly the same extra stuff as SSFIV and we all just took it on the chin. Its been a running joke within the tourney scene for ages that the stamp out sequels at a huge rate, but people do buy them. What I've noticed is that people think this is strange now, but its just the same as before. I think its a money making ploy, but it'll work on me cause ill buy it.

Yeah, 8 new characters, re-balanced gameplay, and two new online modes to say the least. That's SUCH a small change.

It's got Adon. I was somewhat on the fence before the latest 3 new characters were announced, but how can I not get a game with Adon and Guy?
My money is that the "about 8" new characters will be:
Juri
Dee Jay
T. Hawk
Guy
Cody
Adon
Ibuki
Dudley
(Another new character)

Even though some of the changes might be minor the smallest changes can make a huge diffrence. Just think if you took the Tiger uppercut, FADC, step kick away from Sagat he wouldn't be anywhere near as scary. That step kick is like a super without using any meter, it's stupidly good, even without the ultra afterwards it can take a quarter of your health depending on your character.

I was tempted to buy the original but never did, so this seems like a pretty great deal to me. I've always thought the Street Fighter series was the best of the 2D fighters (excluding MvC2, which is the holy grail of fighters to me).

Haha, I love how you say "minor changes" the proceed to list pretty much all of the changes between SFIV and SSFIV.

Back on topic, I really enjoyed SSIV, and although I dislike that they may or may not be going the SFII route with it be on the lookout for Mega Ultra Super Street Fighter: HD Turbo Remix Champion Chibi Edition: Game of the Year coming out in 2011), I still can't help but to be intrigued by this new edition. When all they said about SSFIV was that it was going to have minor moveset changes and adding T. Hawk and Dee Jay, I said to myself "why can't they do this with a DLC patch?", but now every month I hear about all these new additions and now I'm sold. I'm just grateful that it won't be priced at full retail.

I just don't understand people who think that 10 additional characters (yes, 10, check Seth Killian's blog), new stages, new music, new anime intros for each character's arcade mode campaign, new online modes, more accessible replay functionality and god knows how many technical tweaks is not enough content to be considered an actual sequel.

Kind of makes you wonder what, exactly, those people are after. I mean, what the heck else do you want? It's already an entirely different game. Perhaps you'd like it changed from a fighting game to an FPS? That a big enough change for you?

OT, yes, I will be buying it. Considering it's not even going for full price and there's something included for players who bought the original, it's quite the bargain.

This just seems like a patch and some DLC.

By the way, is it just me, or does T. Hawk sound like Goku in the trailer?

I'm not pretending to know everything about the mechanics of patching a game and implementing DLC, but it's quite a lot of data that's being worked in here. These aren't just additional costumes or reskins. They're completely new characters, in addition to changes to the game's original code that might not be possible to adjust with just one patch.

And even if it were possible, perhaps through the use of several sets of DLC instead of one big pack, how much do you think you could expect to pay for it? When Soul Calibur IV released its DLC character (Yoda on the PS3, Vader on the 360), you were expected to pay $5. If Capcom were to follow this model, that's $50 in the hole already, and that's just the additional characters, which you probably wouldn't be able to use properly without also downloading the gameplay tweaks and new modes. You're already paying more than the retail version might be going for.

And besides, by that logic, you could take any sequel that's ever come out and release it as "a patch and some DLC". Assasin's Creed II? "Italian Conspiracy" mission pack, "Double Knives" character patch, "Master of Combat" weapons patch, etc., etc. It's a ludicrous concept, really.

I'm not trying to give the impression that every sequel is could just be some DLC packages. I'm just saying that some new player models, skins, and levels really can't be too much data. The new game modes, yes, would require some serious code.

I'd bet that these new characters, or at least most of them are simply a reskin of an old model and a new face and the only other data needed would be the move-sets. Anyway, this isn't the point, the point is a new game is being sold just months after the original with what is really not a large amount of changes.

So, it's really just the L4D argument all over again.

It just comes to wether or not you believe that a company should have the right to add some extra content to a game and re-sell it. If it really is going to be much cheaper than a full game then my mind will change on this, but if it's more than 75% of a typical new release game, then it still seems like a rip-off.

Edit: Adding things.
