Poll: The best pokemon generation

Okay, so the poll and the post here are slightly unrelated. I'm mostly just wondering what's everyone's favorite generation. And yes, Firered and Leafgreen are part of Gen 3 with Heartgold and Soulsilver being in Gen 4.

I for one always loved and played the first generation, but when I tried to get into the second generation, I seemed to fall flat. The time mechanic was difficult to deal with (real time in a game...), the rules behind DV and everything was rather complicated, and it changed the simplicity of the game into something too complicated.

Now, my roommate just got a DSi XL and SoulSilver and says that soulsilver improves vastly upon the game like firered and leafgreen did. I want to like gold and silver, simply because red and blue were fun, but could be a lot better.

I heard gold and silver are the best generation from a lot of friends, but I know people who like the 4th gen games even without playing the originals. So I pose you two questions:

1. Would it be worth my time to invest in the newest gen games without playing the originals?
2. What's your favorite generation and what do you like about it?

I prefer the first... because it gave us the rest. Or does that give reason to hate it...?

I really should have thought this through before voting. However, I don't think I'll ever step back into the Pokemon thing, not until Pokemon Black is confirmed to have me play as an evil organization out to steal people's Pokemans through battling and other means. Just once I want to be the one to lay the trap... just once.

Haven't played the new ones so I can't tell you but I still like the first generation games the best. I've played gold/silver and diamond/pearl but it's all kinda the same game to me.

The games don't follow on from each other in any massive way, so you can pretty much start at any generation you want.

My favourite will always be 2nd Gen - 1st Gen got us hooked, 2nd reeled us in.

Fourth Generation.

It has everything the first three had and moar.

When 5th Generation hits that's going to be the best.

Then the 6th, then the 7th...

I shall die of old age with Pokémon Generation #3279 being beamed directly to my brain by Nintendo Integrated Reality System (or the NIRS for short)

I didn't start playing Pokemon till Ruby and Sapphire, but since playing the remakes through and through I have to say the Gold and Silver generation are best. The games have the right mix of old and new Pokemon, and the game-play is certainly more refined. That is even in talking about the original Gameboy versions.

The second generation. They'd learnt enough from the first generation to know what people wanted and hadn't got so far they were making walking polygons instead of animals.

Numbers 3 or 1. I like 3 more because it's the first one I played, so it's kind of ingrained in my memory. It also had some good Pokemon.

Platinum was pretty goddamn awesome. I'm just surprised it didn't have multiple profiles. A friend I let borrow my copy saved over my file.

Gold, Silver and Crystal. Without a shadow of a doubt. 16 gym badges and 2 worlds instantly makes it WIN. I'm still waiting for a Pokemon game that lets you travel between all of the worlds from all the generations.

I can honestly say i love all of them.

Each had Pokemon that were great and special to me.
And each had Pokemon that were........well...not so great.

I have a great time playing with pokemon from each gen, though several of my Favorites are from the more recent Gens.

IE Luxray, Rayquaza, Lucario.

I love how attacks can now be physical or special without being bound to one by their element. So 4th generation.

I loved the second generation. It had all the originals, and added 100 awesome new ones. It also added so many new features to the game, like held items and eggs, and it was just generally awesome.

Generation 3 was.... Alright, I guess, but it was definitely declining.

This is all rather informative... Maybe I really just need to buckle down and try to like gold/silver/crystal. I mean, I like the originals and want to like these, it just seems too complicated at times.

1) Pokemon are ALWAYS worth your time.

2) There are only 150 pokemon!

Seriously though, the first generation was really my first game boy game, and that may be the reason I love them so much but nothing after it seems to match the enjoyment I got from the first games.

I haven't followed the games for a while, but talk of black and white has sparked my interest. Im looking forward to seeing how they turn out.

Technically, circles are not polygons. Yeah, I know I'm being a dick...

1st generation, I've only played 1st and 4th and I'm sorry but the lack of charizzards dominance makes the game suffer. CHARIZZARD!!!!!

Ok I'm a little drunk but who here selected anything other than the firebreathing lizzard (as opposed to the plant or the turtle with a water pistol) as a fighting machine :)
