Poll: The lack of nudity in gaming

If you remember back to the glorious days of yore when most video game characters were nude (Sonic, Tails, Pacman, Mrs. Pacman, Frogger) most games were epic and had an incredible amount of replayability. Dozens of teens would be infront of a gaming system on the weekends competing with their friends on who could make Pacman eat the most power pellets in the buff or who could bounce their balls the most on Pong.

Now only a few games keep with the tradition set forth by the great minds of gaming. GTA 4 took the right path in including male nudity and Mass Effect incorporated a bit of female nudity. Far be it from me to state that this nudity was the only thing that made the games good, but technically they were the sprinkles on the awesome-cake that would go on to change the face of video gaming forever (Note: After Mass Effect there have been more space-based games and after Grand Theft Auto 4 there have been more games made featuring weapons and cars).

My question is simple....

How can we convince those making subpar games to incorporate nudity so as to make them playable?

Yes, and I heartily approve.

Also, those of you saying only female nudity, quit being homophobes. Think of the women gamers out there who aren't getting to see any CG penises flopping around.

are we talking sexualized nudity specifically? Or are you talking about more of a just general casual acceptance of nudity? (e.g. the difference between mass effect and GTA4)

I don't really see the need for it, but if a game does it seriously, a la Mass effect, it could work as long as they put it in as an emotional moment and not just, 'hey nerds, look boobies!' A la Mass effect!

Well, as watchmen featured quite a lot of nudity, both female and male, I think that there will be more movies that now feature nudity. In the same way it would be nice to have a game that features nudity and not only in a sexual way, to break the ice if you will.

Well, as they say, everything's better with boobs. How are games any different?

Sometimes the nudity in games is just gratuitous and unneeded.

God of war come to mind. The Oracle could have been clothed, but they made her topless.

I think that there should be enough nudity in games to show people that games aren't afraid to include it. If movies can have nudity, why not games? It's all in the pursuit of media equality. But, of course, we don't need anything excessive.

nudity doesn't make a game replayable. i never thought 'yes Twilight Princess is great but of only everyone was naked'. and even if games did have nudity, if i wanted to see naked people i'd search for porn, not put my Wii on.

Uhh I honestly don't care. In fact, more nudity means less sales because parents won't let their kids buy it. The obvious fame caused by controversy idea is good, but it can also cause backlash on the company. And just because there was nudity, I doubt that it will make the game better.

Just one look at the poster for 'The Unborn' concludes this point to a tee. Hell, a bloody camel-toe was in the bloody film twice of the top of my head and it was shot for a PG-13 rating. I live in England so couldn't care for this but I still heard those bloody 15 year olds snigger in the cinema when it came on screen!

In movies, nudity is usually included as the writing and acting cannot hope to attract viewers on its own. Sure, nudity can be artistic, but really, if you are not twelve, since when do you go see movies BECAUSE of the nudity? They tried showgirls, and that is genuinely unwatchable.

Games do not NEED nudity unless it is truly helping the artistic vision of the game. In my opinion, seeing the street whores from GTA nude is not a +.
