All I can say is that is it definitely worth my money.

Can't get enough of its new combat system.

I started playing it last night. It's really good so far, but damn they need to make the text bigger. I don't think a 36 inch TV is small. I read Ascension right before playing, so it's cool see Omega.

I'm not liking having to go to the ship to change armor. If there's another way, then maybe I just couldn't read it.

Liked: The story. That's usually all there needs to be for me, story trumps gameplay.....except Infinite Undiscovery, story can't save that shitty gameplay. Combat was tighter, bit more fun.

Disliked: Mini-games and ammo. Really? So they go against established canon and add ammo to weapons? I wouldn't mind so much if it allowed my weapons to fire without heat clips, but at a slower rate. Just keep the same system from the first game as back-up for when you run out of clips. And the mini-games? Listen, I thought the Mako drove like a fat man on a unicycle as well, but I would MUCH RATHER DRIVE AROUND than scan a planet, fly all the way back to a fuel depot, get more probes and fuel, fly back and finish scanning....just let me scan the fucking planet like the first game. And what was wrong with the Simon Says button matching mini-game for hacking and unlocking? Did it need to be removed?

So far, I am singularly inimpressed by the "Improvements" that Bioware touted. Yes, I can see the improvement in graphics, and that is always nice, but everything else: The "stream-lined" inventory, no more Mako, the removal of elevator load screens(which they replaced with boring schematic loading screens that take twice as long...good job Bioware)and the mini-games....suck.

I'll still play the game. I'll finish it. I may even replay it. But the "improvements" just suck.

Alright discussion topic #1: For those who have begun to play the game, what is your favorite thing that Bioware changed about Mass Effect, and you least favorite thing they changed?
Favorite change: Tightened up some of the shooting mechanics.

Least favorite: I have 2:
1) I don't like that character customization (putting points into abilities) has been oversimplified. I feel like ME1 was more in depth in this regard, with more abilities and more levels for each one.

2) Really don't like that the guns now have ammo limits. I understand this for heavy weapons, but does the shotgun have to have such a low ammo count? Was there really a problem with the overheating system from ME1?

Overall, though, I've been enjoying this game, though in no way would I suggest it to someone who hasn't played or didn't like the first game.

Commander Shepard...

So powerful, burning up in the atmosphere and crashing onto a planet won't kill him

Loving this game, makes me want to replay ME1 again, just to see what changes I can make

Well, I haven't gotten too far into the game so I'm not ready to vote on whether it's worth a purchase, but I have a feeling my vote will be quite favorable. Without any specific spoilers, my initial reaction to the opening cut scene went something like this, "Ok here we go, getting into it again. What's this? WHAT? no. No! NO! Oh that's cool. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" lol

Intense. Loving it so far.

I'd have no problems at all with the ammo change if some weapons could carry more than a handful of shots. Snipers and Hand Cannons especially, you run out of ammo before you can even finish a single battle with them. It's pretty absurd, I hope that's something they can patch.

My favorite change is, as with everyone, the combat. It feels so much smoother and so much more interesting than ME1. I'm kind of puzzled why they didn't add analog stick sensitivity adjustments though. They have "camera sensitivity" but it's defaulted at 'High' and that's still painfully slow during combat.

Least favorite change is the planet scanning. It did replace the Mako, which is awesome, but in the first game the minerals were useless. Here you're absolutely required to scan for minerals. It's not fun, it's way too time consuming, and it may even detract a little bit from the experience as a whole. I said this in another thread, but I'll say it again here: who designed this, playtested it, and still found it fun? Puzzling to say the least.

Alright discussion topic #2: Alot of people seem to dislike what Bioware did with the mineral and planet exploration. How would you fix this issue?

Well I think BioWare should do something similar to what DoctorNick suggested

So, what I would do is this: Our lovely little ship enters orbit around an uncharted world, the in-game fluff text mentions that your ship uses a little fleet of micro-satellites to scan planets, so the ship then uses these to roughly scan the entire surface of the planet and the game presents a colored overlay showing areas of high and low mineral density. So now instead of having to randomly scan willy-nilly over the entire damn planet you'll generally know the places to hunt around for the motherlodes. On top of that, I would give EVERY planet a couple random 'anomalies' to shoot probes at. Taking a page from the first game these could be something reminiscent of the Prothean data discs, Turian colony emblems, etc. They could also be things like a colony sending out a distress signal, a crashed ship, alien ruins, whatever. With the latter ones you'd be able to land and investigate. Mass Effect 2 already has some planets with side-quests like this I know, but mostly I would make it so EVERY planet has something worth your time on it. If you don't land on it directly you'd at least find a cool doodad or two ala-data disc.
It might seem odd at first for the game to directly point you to the resources and missions, but when you think about it there really is no reason for it not to. Scanning isn't fun and there is no skill involved in it. The only thing it requires is time and patience. Pointing the player to areas of interest right away would make things much more enjoyable. As it stands now, I only prefer resource probing over Mako driving because it doesn't take as long.

I'm all for exploration in video games. It's one of my favorite things to do. It's just that you have to make it interesting.

Well, I've played it for six hours so far and it's shaping up to be my favorite game of all time.

Except for the planet scanning. Oh, Bioware... you and your mini games...

I just got it this morning and I've just freed 'Jack'. I'm loving it, easily my favourite game. I knew it was going to be great around the time I visited the Citadel and heard the 'Isaac Newton' conversation. Vid is below if you wanna watch. All I ask is, if you quote me, no spoilers please :p

Is it just me, or does it get kinda creepy around the 30th time you hear Michael Dorn (Grunt) yell "YEAH! RIGHT ON YOUR ASS!!!"

Jeez how have so many of you beaten it already? I've been playing since launch and I'm still not done with my first play through.

Though maybe it's because I'm going for 100% completion.

Agree. I just went "Holy shit, and I'm supposed to stand a chance against this thing?!"

Good thing my Shepard never leaves Normandy without a mini nuke on his back.

Favorite change: Probably the heavy weapons. I have a raging hardon for the Black Hole Cannon, so I have to say it was my favorite new thing.

Least Favorite Change: Probes. It's retarded to use all your probes on one planet, then have to leave the system, fly to another, stock up on probes and gas, and then fly back over. Should have had unlimited probes instead, or a fuel depot in every system. As it is, re-stocking on them was just useless busywork.

I totally went "Damn... Where's John Conner when you need him?" when I first saw that.

I loved the conversation between the one human and salarian near the werehouse. Its the same guy who was complaining about a refund from the first game XD

"Two years, TWO YEARS, I've been trying to get this refund! I'm not going to stop now!"

I wish him luck.

Also: "I'm Commander Shepard, and every damn store is my favorite store on the citadel."

Don't worry, I haven't beaten it either.
