As much as we all dearly love The Escapist's one and only Yahtzee, I've always wondered where on earth did he get his nickname from.
After visiting his sight and playing some of his own AGS games, most of which the plot is so fantastic that I can't wait to solve the stupid puzzle with the porcelain body parts, and so I cave into my weakness and go google search a walkthrough and feel guilty about that while I immensely enjoy the plot.
Anyways, my point is that after seeing the end credits for Yahtzee?s games, which he has been making for a good number of years now, I saw that he is always ?Ben ?Yahtzee? Croshaw
In all my crazed fandom of Yahtzee I haven't seen anything to remind me of the famous dice game.
Edit:
Someone in the replies after me gave me a link to a Yahtzee less Ben Croshaw production.
It's an online comic called Yahtzee takes on the World. where the main character Yahtzee, loosely based on Ben Croshaw's own personality tries to take over the world.
So my new theory is that Yahtzee TOTW was his first major online contribution (references to high school) and so when he needed a forum/user/IGN he used yahtzee after his character. Or his comic strip was what he was known for, so people gave it to him as a nick name. Or he used it to remind people of his character. Whatever that reason it still came from a comic he drew in highschool. Just like my user name does (I hand drew that picture of the Manga cat)
Why he named his main comic character yahtzee. I still have no clue.
Maybe it's more of a reference to uhhh... idk... using the phrase 'Yahtzee' like we use WOOT.
Maybe when he was in Jr. High he had a crazy Yahtzee fetish... no that's not right... maybe he ran a craps game and called it Yahtzee to fool all the parents into thinking their preteens were doing something wholesome.
Maybe it has some British connotation that I can't catch onto because I'm just about as American as Apple Pie (although I do agree Bush has made some whopping mistakes, and says some funny misquotes).
Does anyone know where the mysterious nick name for the funniest game reviewer came from?
Or does anyone have any theories???
I want to know... badly
(yes I am a huge Yahtzee fan... how huge? you don't want to know...)
