I?ve made quite a few threads during my time here, some successful others a complete fail. My reason for making these threads are due to the three following reasons. I had a good idea that I wished to share with my fellow Escapist users or I saw an interesting news story that I felt like sharing. I may also write my own story thread, if I could ever think of one.

I don't really see how I can answer this with anything other than "discussion?"
Why did you want to start a discussion? Were you bored or was there something on your mind?

I haven't made a thread yet, I think I'll wait until I'm less of a noob to make one.

I like to think I make threads when I have something profound to say, important to discuss, or really really funny to bring to the attention of the masses.

As it says in the Guidelines, making threads is an art. Making posts is an art. It requires a lot more effort to come up with a truly great thread than most people understand and I think it's unfortunate just how few of these we see at the moment. If there's anything I would like to do as a mod it's to shift the general tilt of these forums away from the aggressive low-content "My Opinion, Tis Of Thee" attitude I see so often. And really, it's the attitude people bring to the forum that makes all the difference. We're not here to scream at the top of our lungs. These sections are "Off-topic Discussion", "Gaming Discussion", etc. The aforementioned guidelines make a point about the importance of conversing.

I suppose that's the biggest difference I notice from when I started. There was a saturation of high-content posts with references, research, informed opinion and the like. That saturation was self-perpetuating much the same as the current habit of low-content posts is. Now I consider it rare to see posts beyond the three paragraph mark. I really miss them.

As such I've been trying to get back into the game of making complex and discussive threads and keeping my standards high when posting in general. Alas that I should find myself increasingly busy at the same time as I come to a potential fruition of long dreams. Ladies, gentlemen, and those who don't wish to or haven't decided. I invite you to join me in a tedious and potentially unrewarding attempt to lift the bar once again.

I don't make threads. I live by the adagio: none of us are as stupid as all of us. I like to contribute to it, but I don't want to rely on it. ^^

If we all did that, wouldn't we be absolutely flooded with topics saying "check out this Youtube video!!!!!111"?

I have only made 2-3 threads, each time it was beacause I wanted to start a certain topic of conversation.

I like to share my opinions, ask interesting questions or sometimes just show off new avatars.

Normally it's a technical question. Sometime for opinionated discussion

My definition of funny is probably very different. That bit also comes with the proviso of "If I can't make a discussion out of it, I won't post it." Even if that discussion is just about humour techniques I'll still put it up. To be fair I have found people don't appreciate me dissecting their "lolz". Possibly because I do it so well and they don't find it so funny afterwards. Around about the point I like to direct them somewhere with better quality humour, really.

I feel that before I post I must answer two specific questions, and if it answers yes to one than I will make it. The first being "Does this topic ask a question that can plausibly be answered here?" The second is "Does this topic generate thoughtful discussion over a specific topic?"

I enjoy seeing how peoples opinions contrast with my own, and enjoy discussion. I won't lie, it's nice to have people respond to your opinions with their own, even if it's opposed to yours, it's just nice to get a discussion going.

Heck, even flame wars, annoying as they are, are at least interesting.
Pretty much this.

Also I find that the boards on the Escapist are pretty level-headed. I'm more likely to post topics here than another board because people here seem to post more thoughtful replies than just one-liners or illogical arguments (although you still see those here too, of course).

Let's see.......

-I make Forum Games.
-I make RPs, which, contrary to popular belief, are not Forum Games.
-I think the subject might cause some discussion.
-Or, I think all intelligent-like and because of my ignorance make a thread where within 6 posts, someone points out something that makes the norm of things correct.
