First, this is a discussion on if we should unmask them not on what they look like under the mask.

Second if this has been posted already sorry, I checked there Forums and didn?t see one.

I was wondering people?s opinions on unmasking the Quarians or not. Please give the reasons why you do/don't want this to happen, I'm currently undecided on the subject.

I say no, they've been masked this long, and many people have their own idea what they'd look like.
If they got unmasked, a lot of people would no doubt be disappointed.
It'd be like if Master Chief was unmasked.

They'll show us a Quarian in ME3 I think. There'll be too much nerd-rage if they don't.

If not, there's always the pervs over at DeviantArt.

...I'd still tap that. I like her character, not because she's a nerd. >.> She's just less annoying than the others. ..And in ME2, not super exaggerated in her character flaws.

So bring it. Make her ugly :p We can put the mask back on! D:<

OT: ..I think they should take the mask off for ME3, it's supposed to be the last right? ...unless they plan on some spin offs, I say end the mystery before it gets ended like the Klingons without the head ridges...

..Please don't do that to us Bioware <.<;

Yes, because the resulting nerd rage will be hilarious. No matter what Tali looks like, some part of her creepy fanbase will ***** and moan about it. They all have this perfect little dream image of Tali, and showing her face would crush that dream into pieces. That would be wonderful.

Unless Quarians are space elves. In which case, no. The last thing Mass Effect needs is space elves.

Because that mission where their sworn arch enemies, the geth, assaulting their fleet being a footnote to Tali whining about how daddy never hugged her was so subtle and nuanced.

i think if i remember right..the chief was described, to a degree that you could paint a decent picture.

plus honestly i want to see his fucking face, i hate not having an exact figure in my head when i hear his voice or anything.

if there is a voice, and they have a body, i want to see a fucking face, doesn't matter the game, or the person, give me a god damn faceeeee

Think about the -other- characters. Like Jack. or Miranda. ..God I hate Miranda. Stupid snobby high poly... *walks of mumbling completely forgetting the rest of what he was going to say*

I liked Jack. She's a played out stereotype of a character, but I came here for the dramatic over-the-top action movie space opera, and she fits well into that. And then for sentimental reasons, you go back to the source of all her mental trauma and you blow it the fuck up. No hugging, no crying, just get closure and deal with it. She's also the only character interaction you can screw up by being a colossal jerk.

Miranda's I liked the ambiguity of. You meet up with the person from her past life who's absolutely horrified at what she's done, and you only have her word that her father was abusive in any way, and it could easily be construed as him simply being strict and having high expectations of his daughter. This is the same girl who opted for a mind-control chip in your head, I doubt she's above lying to you.

I DO NOT ;.; SHE'S A BIG FAT STUPID HEAD!

..but seriously, I think Tali was a well done character. Compared to the other characters in ME2 (...I'll be honest my grasp of ME1 is slipping, it's been a while) she's pretty believable for an alien. She's not a science experiment punk/goth chick who wants to burn the world, I mean yeah that's Jack's thing but, it was -waaay- over the top. Miranda was created to be perfect in every way or something, and she hates her dad for a sister that's not her sister (or was it?) ...I got kinda lost with her because I find her to be -excruciatingly- annoying. Samara ...I actually completely ignored. >.>

Mordin is probably second place for a well done character. Dunno about Jacob, I actually forgot he existed for most of the game...Same with Thane, He came into it well after I had my team picked out, so I never really wanted to talk to him.

Garrus is just a badass, so he gets his own separate paragraph. He doesn't need to be believable, or well done. He's Garrus! >.>

So, I'll figure the rest of them when I play the game a second time. I'm giving myself some time to not remember it step by step so it's not as boring.

At least Miranda isn't a racist. Same can't be said about Tali.

If they care to preserve the mystery of Tali (and not piss off half her fanbase, as Kraken mentioned), they would be wise not to. The mystery is almost always more interesting than the truth.

That said, if they do decide to reveal how Quarians might look in general, I imagine the best way to do it - without it feeling like a contrived "ZOMG look no mask!!11!" moment - is for your team to perhaps come across a group that had been ambushed. They find a few dead quarians, and some of them - it doesn't need to be more than one or two - had their masks broken/shattered in the attack. You can make out their features more clearly, but they still might be obscured with dirt/glass/blood/whathaveyou. The community gets a clearer glimpse under the mask, but the mystery of what an unblemished quarian might look like remains intact.

Just an idea.

They should keep it covered (hehe).

No, I really do think they shouldn't unmask Quarians. What I do want is more Quarians on my squad. Specifically Kal'Reegar (even though he could die during the Haestrom mission).

I like this idea. Very nice. ...That's all I have to say, because I like your idea better than anything I was thinking of.

No, I don't think they should. 1) because people are way too obsessed with Tali as it is and this is a move bound to piss people off if someone's like "RARGH YOU DIDN'T MAKE HER HOT" and 2) because it undermines the whole situation quarians are in. I love Tali and everything, but it kind of annoyed me that she took her helmet off and made out with Shepard if he romanced her. I just thought it diminished the impact of her situation and made it kind of shallow. Just my opinion, though.

Although, there are two situations where I would be totally comfortable with them unmasking the quarians where I think it would be poignant and not out of place at all. Firstly, if Tali dies. Removing her mask and seeing her face if she's fatally wounded would be a really touching moment; she already knows she's dying so she wants her final gesture to Shepard to be the most intimate thing a quarian can do with another - being outside their suit with them. Secondly, I think it would be a really uplifting, triumphant moment if the quarians step onto their homeworld for the first time in centuries...and can finally take their helmets off, even if only for a minute. That would be a great thing to have happen, and I wouldn't object to it at all since it represents the completion of what has been the quarians' dream for centuries, and their freedom. Tali would obviously be among her people then, so we'd get to see her face too.

Other than those exceptions, I don't see any reason why they should take their helmets off and reveal what they look like. Personally, I think anything else would come off as too contrived.
