Vanquish is a ton of fun, but it's one of those games that if you go in and try to play it like a cover shooter, you're going to think it sucks. I spend almost no time in cover in Vanquish. I use cover to:
A) Smoke a cigarette (the tossed cigarette will distract the enemy robots)
B) Vault over the cover and melee the shit out of things/blast them in half with the shotgun.

For those of you who dislike Vanquish, how many of you knew the dodge move has i-frames? I kinda rest my case there.

I had a lot of fun boosting around the battlefield and bouncing from bad guy to bad guy. Boost to cover, vault over it, slow mo shotgun to the face one guy, boost melee the next guy, dodge incoming fire and boost off to cause more pain and suffering, all while not actually taking cover. Hell, even during the final boss I didn't bother with cover. Thanks to the dodge's i-frames I can just stay totally mobile.

I'm in love.
I am currently counting the days until it's released.

Though, is it just me or was the demo Boss fucking insane?

I though it was awesome, the fancy over-the-top shooting gameplay was fantastic, Slo-mo everywhere, a smoke button, just a bizarre sense of style.

I don't usually play actual shooter games but I loved this one.

I'll echo what a few others have already said: the game is a lot more fun if you specifically don't use cover.

The gunplay doesn't feel particularly satisfying, and the characters are pretty much unbearable. Still, lots of potential.

I never really realized about the i-frames because the only game I kinda associate i-frames with is Metal Gear Online. But yeah, come to think about it, dodging around is just as good as cover unless you dodge right into an attack.

Anyone playing this game as a cover shooter is not playing the game right. PERIOD. END OF STORY. The game is, in a sense, like a sandbox game or a painter's canvas; you are given the tools to make the game as cool and as stylish as you want. What you said about cover was exactly what I said in my first post in the thread, "The only reason to use cover is to jump over it in slow-mo or smoke a cigarette." And, of course, do the melee attack/jump combo thing while in slow-mo.

Why is everyone harping on the story and characters for being bad, generic, not-so-great, unbearable, etc? Am I the only one that sees that this game is like an 80's action movie (US vs Russia) but set in the future? Just from the demo, I'm liking the vibe the game has going for it. I love the fact that the enemy is red Russian robots. Even the Red Dawn remake has failed by including the Chinese.

The dialogue is painful. Bad writing, bad acting. If they're aiming for camp, they've missed badly.
