So, Marvel released the shortlist for the actors they're considering for Peter Parker's role:

Nat Wolff

Am I the only one who thinks that all of them are way too young and inexperienced? And that they have weird names?

I honestly don't like any of them, but I'm going for Asa Butterfield.

Parker IS supposed to be a high schooler after all; it'd be awfully weird to have someone older in the role...

I don't know who any of these guys are. It would probably help if you threw some kind of bio besides a picture there since they all are basically the same person looks-wise with different hair colors/styles...

I honestly never heard of them beside Asa Butterfield, but I guess I could link their Wikipedia pages.

Personally, I think Nat is the closest to the nerdy version of Spiderman that I know and love and the rest of them seem just a little too cool for the role. Sure they could do the cooler Spiderman, but as far as I know, Spiderman doesn't really become popular with his classmates until after he is out of high school. That being said, I'm not acquainted with any of their acting talent, so my opinion might shift if it turns out one of them is the superior actor. As much as it hurts me to say it, I don't think any of them really are fit for the part, so I'm kind of apathetic about this. I was hoping they would just skip to an adult Spiderman or at least college Spiderman, but I guess that is asking for a lot. That being said, I'm still holding out to see the rest of the possible cast. If J.J.J. is in this movie, I will be willing to pay twice the cost of tickets if by some miracle he's played by Colbert.

I am not totally convinced those are five different people. At least three of them look like the same person so I'd say any of them would do if all you're looking for is generic white guy.

They could always go the Miles Morales route. A lot of free publicity and it does a lot to separate itself from TAM1 and TAM2 on its own without any of that publicity by having a character who is visibly different than Peter Parker.

Also if he ends up in the MCU, it'd be a low risk in regards to polarzing people with racial prejudices since anybody who would like these movies had already seen them by now and gotten invested in the MCU.
The problem with Miles Morales is his character is entirely dependent on Spiderman already existing. Take Parker out of the equation, and you're pretty much gutting Miles when he is an already somewhat flat character. An even worse prospect would be just making Parker black for the hell of it, they might be able to get away with doing that with obscure side characters but for someone as well known as Spiderman/Peter Parker that would be outright sacrilege.
I disagree about him being entirely dependent on Spider-man. He does have issues with his family, and the whole fighting villains, learning his powers thing to fall back on. It seems to me the easiest way to get a fresh take on the character

I don't see a problem with making Peter Parker black, either (though I would prefer Miles because I enjoyed the comics.) If they wanted to do a reboot of a nerdy kid from Brooklyn it doesn't stretch the imagination too far to suppose he might be black.

Agreed. Or they could always go for another alternative version of Spiderman. Still think Glover was snubbed for the reboot, but I'm unsure if he'd be a good Miles/Parker at his age now.

I've only heard of Asa Butterfield and frankly I have heard great things abut him. he's about the right age and has some pretty good acting chops.

Parker is supposed to be young at least in any origin stories. If they skip the whole origin angle (which they really should consider doing as it's the second reboot in 15 years, give the origin angle a fricking rest already) they could get away with a guy who can pass for early 20s.

but if they are doing a full reboot yet again they need a young guy.

I have no clue about any of those five, but it feels like the last three have enough of "weird" factor. In 3 and 4 it's a bit higher... going off of these photos.

I don't like being judgmental, especially about someone's physical appearance, but what the shitting shit is up with that kid's jawline? He looks like the result of someone dicking around with the sliders in a character creator.
