VR Experiences: what do you have and what are you experiencing?

Mine so far:
I've got the Odyssey + for Windows Mixed Reality. I've gotten Steam VR working with it and want to get Oculus working too. Not sure it will really work.

As opposed to say, the Samsung Gear, there is a learning curve here. Some things are hit and miss, particularly games.

I had a sound issue that required me to use a different USB port which is odd as other USB headsets are fine in the other port.

I haven't set up boundaries yet but need to do so. I was playing a game where I was supposed to try out a couple of broad swords on a dummy and I went to cut it down... and punched my desktop computer.

Halo recruit is a blast for a short period. 3d Halo characters are cool and then shooting targets with machine pistols was fun but when it asked if I wanted to do it again, I declined.

VR movies are a hoot. I went with a group jumping off a cliff/ out of a plane in another to glide around in wing suits.

One of the neatest experiences so far was a Salvador Dali experience provided at the Cliff House by Youtube. They have one for Van Gogh but SD is better.

Your experiences? Advice? Best and worst?

I use a Lenovo Explorer, which is also a WMR headset.

I got to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I really wanted room scale support but didn't want to shovel out twice the price for a Vive just to do it, so the fact that the front mounted cameras let you walk around just by recognizing the shape of your room is very convenient.

That said, it has the WORST time keeping track of the controllers. You practically have to keep them in view at nearly all times of one or your arms in game will launch into orbit and just spin in place until it gains tracking again.

But when it does track, it does so accurate enough. I can say, while I've only used this and a PSVR headset, I can just feel that the tracking could be so much better, but I'd say it's adequate.

I had to invest in some rechargeable AA batteries though, since the controllers drain them like a ************.

I've tried many games in VR, Minecraft, Dead Effect 2 VR, Doom 3, Fallout 4 VR, Skyrim VR, but I'd say my favorite has been Arizona Sunshine and Beat Saber.

I'll definitely try Arizona Sunshine and Beat Saber ASAP. Thanks for the reference.

I've never found a VR game that I've found immersive for more than a few minutes. That doesn't mean I think they are bad games but I just don't see how they'd be any worse just playing on a standard screen.

The problem is for me that for the first few minutes of play I'm involved but then my senses catch up to me and I start to get pulled out of the experience. For example I can see the roast hog cooking over a fire but I can't feel the heat of the flame or smell the meat. There are controllers that can simulate touch but they can only tell me I'm holding something, not what the feel of it is like in my hand.

VR for gaming simply isn't there yet for me. On the other hand I'm completely sold on it for movie watching. I'll quite happily sit and watch a movie in the Oculus theatre, there have been times I've quite forgotten where I was and gotten up to walk to the toilet and slammed straight into my desk. Hell I'd love it if real cinemas could have a VR seat, I know I'd happily pay to watch the latest movies but sadly I know that people would be streaming it on the internet almost straight away.
