Most people always says "The graphics for this game is s**t", it brings up the questions what makes a good game? In all my years of gaming I never have had a problem with the graphics of a game, but I want to know what you think.

Gameplay is one of the most important no matter what. If it is not fun, its not fun. Story too, but not every good game needs it. Though story-less games would have to have great gameplay. (mindless type games, most old games are like this, old being Atari era)
Replayability is also good. If you still want to play the game years later, says alot about it.
Graphics are one of the least important parts. If you knock a game cause it has bad graphics, then I vote to revoke your gamer status.

None of those, the game play makes a good game.
not all games need a story or multilayer or graphics, look at donkey kong, mario bros and shit.

Well if I can't play it, because of bad controls, ick. Story is second on the list. Multiplayer, not necessary. Graphics I don't care unless it looks worse than a launch game for that system or older

Yo it's me again we should play Diablo again sometime.

Also, you didn't put "gameplay" as an option, I am proud of you for thinking.

Controls btw.
Opps my bad. lol

Immersion, which sadly isn't up there. It's not really anyone of those things, sure investment in the story is great (its what I voted for), but if I can get sucked into a world, I could care less about the story.

Halo 3 without the 9-13 year olds would be nice... but that's impossible unless you create a genocide of them. KOTOR 3 wold be awesome :D Almost forgot to mention, it's not based on a movie :p

Good story and gameplay, which both unfortunatly are absent from many newer games. Replaced with new shiny graphics T_T

Story usually helps with that. Though yes I definatly love it. Thats why TES is my favorite game series ever.

No, I was being serious, I can't stand the word gameplay because nobody can provide a concrete definition.
I guess you could says like it replayablitly (Can't spell anything anymore), or the immersion. Like as MrNades said "Look at Donkey Kong, Super Mario bros. etc."

Heh, after you replied to mine, I actually must say good job since when I thought how to define it what came to mind was "...?"
So you bring up a good point. I will -try- to explain.
Gameplay is how it plays. Now thats the half-assed definition, but its not the same for every game.
Shooters for example, the gameplay revovled around shooting and guns, but there is so much to it too. Like, health, whether its regenerative or healthpacks, how vehicles work, and such.
I guess gameplay really is an umbrella term.

I feel like a politican now cause of this response...

The graffics question is a complex one... For example, when Half Life was launched, the graffics were awesome for that time... and the game itself was great aswell. However, after playing more recent games, I can't see myself touch a game like Half Life again, because it seems too ugly compared to the more recent stuff I've played, even if the more recent ones aren't half the game Half Life was.

Overall, as long as the graffics arent TOO dated (Say, worst than 5 year old games), I will always chose gameplay, universe and style above all.

To the dude asking what gameplay is, my deffinition is a broad term that includes Immersion, Controls, Interface and Pace. Basically is what makes the interactivity between the game and the player work perfectly.

Presentation.

Braid is effectively Mario 1 when it comes to gameplay, with a better storyline.

And the graphics aren't what make it incredible, but the use of the graphics and the art to TELL the story, to FEEL the game...

That is what makes it what it is.

Bioshock is a samey FPS, but the presentation makes it incredible.

Fallout 3 is an Oblivion mod, but the presentation makes it incredible.

Okami is Zelda reskinned, but the presentation makes it incredible.

Crysis is Farcry with better graphics (and a few suit gimmicks I like.) Does that make it a lasting game? No. Something will outshine it later. Graphics will get better, etc.

Psychonauts used a specific art style to create a specific feeling. Will this age with time? No. The wild, cartoony, campy style is what made the game what it is, along with its interesting environments. The story is interesting, but nothing very outlandish, and the gameplay is similar to that of any modern platformer. But the presentation...

That makes the game.

Voted mute button btw.

I never thought about the environment (Universe) thanks for the idea!

should have excluded gameplay as it's the obvious choice and will skew the results.

IMO a good game has gameplay+story+controls

A great game has most if not all of the choices
