I'm entirely shocked that the polls at this point scale in favor of the PS4... with all the problems and horrid games that they've had...
XBox 360s failure rate is about 30%
PS3s failure rate is less then 1%
I'm not sure what problems you are talking about, but having to use 2 different game disks and then download texture packs is enough for me never to buy anything from microsoft ever again.

I will probably buy none, and use my PC which is better now then the new consoles will ever be. I will eventually buy the next playstation because they have far better exclusives.
I still use my original 360 (though I have a new one with a better hard driver and the Valhalla chip as well) that I got on Day 1 release and for 5 years I've had 0 problems with it save for freezing on Oblivion and any Bethesda product because they are horrible programmers. No red ring, no issues. So no, if you treat them well, they treat you well.

I bought a PS3 last Christmas, it died a month later, also chopped a disc to bits. Yeah, I'm so happy with *Sony*.

Killzone and the like were terrible games, Folklore was a horrible RPG and Resistance followed suit with Killzone. I see no exclusives outside of MGS4 that were actually "good". And in the story category they were abysmal.

360's have always had much better exclusives.
360s have always had halo. But now that bungie has jumped the microssoft ship there is zero exclusives worth buying. Bethesda are not horrible programmers, they are actually quite good. It is VERY difficult to maintain as much content as is in your typical elder scrolls game without having bugs. You personal experience differs quite a bit from hard data about reliability. When you buy an xbox on release day, you have to buy a wifi adapter AND pay for xbox live just to use the internet, and then you still have no bluetooth or blu-ray.
I used an Ethernet cable for most of those years, not really a problem. I didn't want BluRay or Bluetooth on my 360, I bought it for games.

Lost Odyssey was a great exclusive for RPG's. And we had Mass Effect too, so in its hay-day it was a VERY good console. As for Elder Scrolls, you can't excuse day 1 game freezes as "acceptable bugs". Anyone who knows how the QR process works knows that they are the worst of the worst and yet they were passed up. Sorry, but no.

Whichever one is least motion sensor dependent. Seriously guys, fuck motion sensors. At this point it's not clear who that'll be, so I'm just going to have to wait and see.

I have a 360 love it but it's lost a lot of the exclusives that made me get it in the first place. If the PS4 has party chat and reverse compatibility I'm sold.

Which of the new consoles will you buy when they finally come out? Kind of early I know but I would probably go with PS4 since the majority of my Xbox favs are now on PlayStation like Mass Effect. Plus recently I've fallen in love with the PlayStation after playing: Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, Killzone 3, MGS 4, Little Big Planet, etc.
If the SOPA bill is actually passed, I will refuse to buy anything Sony or Nintendo related. Seriously, f*ck Sony and Nintendo for supporting such a bill.

at this point, none, i've heard nothing that warrants me dropping as much as those are gonna be.

but with as dismal as release have been for me the last few years, i may just ignore the consul scene and go PC for home gaming

why isn't there a "none" option? Sony and microsoft lied to everyone about the 10 year product life. I'm pissed, and i'm showing it by not buying into their bullshit.
I was going to argue about how Sony lied, but I'm actually going to argue about how any of them lied. I don't remember seeing anything about them not keeping them to 10 years, but Sony have especially made a policy with the PS1 and PS2 having 10 year life-cycles (and I swear that the PS2 lasted even longer than that, they even released a Bravia TV with a PS2 built-in after the 10 year mark)

I'd get a PS4, but I'm skeptical as to how we can really improve that much except for just getting better hardware. If the 360 and PS3 could both run CryEngine 3, and the PS3 could run GT5 at its (frankly very beautiful) quality, then there may not be a point. I say we keep this generation going and we just innovate in gameplay and story.

Of course, I am kinda rambling here...
My PS3 lasted a month when I bought it last Christmas, then it died and also killed a game disc in it. My original 360 from Day 1 release has had no problems save on Bethesda games. No red ring, no nothing. Treat it well and it lives well. My PS2 also killed any DVD I tried to play with it.

Microsoft has always been very supportive in comparison.
Well, you were unlucky with your PS3 and lucky with your 360. Remember that the 360 has had quite a large failure rate compared with the PS3 and the Wii.
People tend to place their consoles in poor positions, just as they tend to use things they don't know how to use well. Vista worked perfectly for me as well, but others complained. I find that if you treat it well, it will survive, if it doesn't, then it was poor quality. The PS3 and PS2 were poor quality.
Yours may have been, I'm still on my first PS2 and first PS3, both of them being 'phat' models. Vista worked well for me, but that's because at the time my laptop was moderately powerful, and even then it was sluggish.

It all depends on the offerings and limitations. If the new wave of consoles can only be played online or, if they only utilize digital distribution as opposed to disc/cartridge based games (Yes I went there) then this will be my last console generation. It's a bit too early to decide though but based on what I've seen, the Wii-U looks great for me. Sure, it uses a tablet as a controller but the thing has a traditional button layout and two analogue sticks, just like every other console has had since the early 2000's. Add in HD titles and, a triumphant return of decent third party support and I'm onboard the Wii-U train.

I don't know yet mainly because we don't know what direction they'll all go in. Sony we can probably predict will make another powerhouse, but I've never liked the playstation so that's probably a no.

I've heard that MS might be planning on taking the Wii approach with their next console, meaning less raw power, more motion controls. If they focus too much on that then it might be a no go as well since I still to this day hate the New Xbox Experience crap. They added the Miis (I mean avatars), made it all white and family friendly and...yea, I hate it, the old one was perfectly fine. I still have trouble finding stuff. It wouldn't bother me much if I had the option to go back to the old interface but alas...So if they focus on the casuals too much, then goodbye.

The Wii U seems interesting and has potential but for me it entirely depends on what Nintendo will be focusing on. If they focus on the hardcore crowd again and drastically improve the hardware (what they showed was an improvement but not much that can't already be done on current consoles), then it might be the one. But I have my doubts since the casual crowd has been printing money for them. But if Wii U gets unique exclusive AAA titles, with graphics on par with the other consoles or better...

So ultimately I don't know yet, I'll have to see more.

I might buy something that isn't MS-made. (As long as they ignore my PC, I shall ignore their money-sponge of a console)

Would much prefer to play on PC, though - so games like Skyward Sword/most Wii U games probably will be run through emulators (Don't look at me that way! I bought the game, with its golden wiimote and everything!)

I've owned (and still do) all system for the past three gens. I play all of them on occassion.

Having said that, the WiiU looks incredibly underwhelming, gimicky. So at this point I'd like to think I'll be just PS4 + XBOX720, and skip the U.

Although considering I eventually caved for both Kinect and Move, I'm probably kidding myself.

Spoiler tag, god damn. Did you just copy paste that list from somewhere? I don't even recognize the names of most of them. Have fun using 2 separate disks, and then having to download texture packs for battlefield 3, because XBox doesn't have blu-ray. Have fun having only one source of wireless controllers/headsets/keyboards because microsoft doesn't license their wireless tech to anyone. Have throwing away your controller's batteries every time they run out because microsoft would rather have you pay for a rechargeable battery pack later on top of the price of the controller, which already costs as a PS3 controller, and PS3 controllers have gyroscopes and far more advanced vibration, not to mention their superior reliability. Also, have fun with a fucking jet engine sitting by your TV every time you want to play something. Regardless of what you bought your console for, it is clear to pretty much anyone that the playstation does more things, and does them better.

I am telling you right now, it is near impossible to bring the amount of bugs to normal levels, in a 300 hour game, in the production cycle they have. Take Valve for instance. Their production cycles are close to as long as bethesda's, and their games are some of the stablest in the industry, especially when running on a mac. Their games are also 8 hours long, and they are linear. They have about 4 characters having scripted conversations with each other, while skyrim has hundreds having non scripted interactions with you, and with the environment. Everything you do has the potential to affect every other aspect of the world, and no studio has the man power to go through that much content enough times to find everything.

Well, after the game actually loads to the start screen and sometimes just the first few minutes of the game for the first time... the sound is gone, whisper quiet.

The controllers? Been working as long as I had the 360, which is since launch, though my PS3 controllers died because a few drops of water got on them, which is ridiculous for current tech which needs to at least be water-resistant and mostly everything else is... except PS3 controllers of course.

Two of the recharge battery packs cost 30 dollars including the module for recharging. The PS3 requires itself to be standby active-on and have a long cord going to it, and I also have to buy another of those cords, and there is no warranty on those stupid controllers.

Installing a texture pack? Doesn't bother me and to really harp on it for ONE GAME out of 400+ that is just ridiculous. You also forget that the PS3 requires installing a lot of games as well and while you may not need disc changes... it takes much longer than it does to install the discs INCLUDING a disc change and that next disc install on the PS3, it is just a very slow install system.

The interface for their service is much better as well and as I've played all the games you'd call "great exclusives" I have to wonder how sane you really are, because those are some pretty poor product unless you're talking multiplayer and even then, it is still a pretty poor product.

Those games weren't that long a list, lol, and a lot of people have heard of some of those games, many of them are popular. Lost Odyssey is probably the best non Sci-Fi RPG on any of the consoles as well. And many other RPG's and games exist. The 360 also has Gears of War, Fable, and another bunch of AAA games that are very good.

Truthfully? The PS3 has a lot of issues and I've yet to find really anything that makes it worth purchasing outside of MGS4 and PERHAPS Uncharted, though Uncharted is ridiculously repetitive to me and has horrible difficulty balancing and design implementation. In my opinion.

Probably none of the above. Now that all three are pulling Sony's crap of tying game execution to required updates, none of them can be trusted, AFAIC. That, and I doubt any of the BIG_FRANCHISE ++ITERATIVE_RELEASE have much to offer me anymore.
Yea.
OP- your poll needs two more options: PC & None of the Above.
My choice would be between those two.

I can't say I'm excited for any of the consoles coming up after this generation.
Our choices have been between a children's toy, a console with defective hardware but good support, and a console with good hardware & terrible support.

If the next generation of consoles is going to have a similar choice of overpriced craptaculation AND we're going to have to deal with online passes, pre-order game content dlc, lack of backwards compatibility, and broken games at launch, I really can't be bothered.

Really, in order for them to get me interested in consoles again, they (all) have to get their shit together. That includes:
Coming up with a standard format so we don't have to deal with the shittiest ports of all time on the next playstation.
Stress testing the hardware so we don't have to deal with another rrod situation.
Chill out about pirating and used sales (which are going to happen anyway) so we don't have to lose interesting features or deal with online pass codes.
And THEN, the game publishers also need to start making games that people wont want to trade in rather than just hyping people up for pre-orders and combating used sales which (I guess they don't understand) expands their user base...and that's a good thing.

The ps2 sold a hell of a lot more when it was the age that the 360 & ps3 (combined sales) are at now, so hopefully they'll see that and get their shit together or I'm done with all of them.
