Mass Effect fanbase is just plain weird at time. They act like the characters are actual people. And weird stuff in their forum signatures. It's very strange and fanatical.

I think you should add (or any Nintendo game) to the Pokemon because that's what I'm going to vote for. Although, Nintendo fans are more on the fanatical side in my eyes.

Also, Persona fans worth mentioning. I've noticed that Persona fandom is relatively small compared to most others, but very passionate and dedicated. Or maybe that's just me.

I would have said Final Fantasy until a few years ago but with the more recent stuff I just don't know.
These days I'd say Pokemon I mean a lot of people are buying a 3DS just because of Pokemon X&Y. There are a few good games for the 3DS but they're all just extras for anyone buying it this year and you can't tell me otherwise.

Also welcome to the Escapist, stay out of the basement.

Personally I would've said the Sonic franchise.

There are definitely a fair few fanatics within the fanbase. And trust me, some of those guys can argue amongst themselves about anything so long as it is tangentially linked to the franchise.

And then there's some of the images. Even on the non-R34 side of things.

Here's a game for everyone. Search your first name, with "the Hedgehog" after it. Chances are there's fan art called by that very name.

So yeah, the Sonic franchise.

Well all fan bases have nutter butters in their midst that will defend to the death their chosen game but who has the most nutter butters? Well in large part, it depends on where you hang out.

For myself, I am only on The Escapist and therefore the vast majority of nutter butter fanboys I see are PC gamers (specifically Valve). While the vast majority of The Escapist are level headed individuals, you would think that I smashed a puppies skull in at how a few people react when I talk about how much I don't like PC gaming and how I don't plan on buying any of Valve's story-based games due to how they are handling Half Life...

EDIT:

Brian the hedgehog eh...

I'm a Knuckles clone with spiked green highlights? I suppose that's not the worst that could have shown up in Google...

Madden. Sport games in general are pretty crazy when it comes to sequels. If any other genre was to release the exact same game repeatedly, just with minor roster altercations, they would get shunned. Yet EA Sports knows all they have to do is create one game and they can release it a dozen times under a dozen different titles and the mass will flock to each one. Sure each Call of Duty or Halo might sell more copies, but if you were to combine all the Madden/NCAA titles together that are basicly the same game, it'd beat out any other non-MMO title.

In my experience, I'd say Halo. Some of the fans I've met were... creepy, to say the least. These were more of the hardcore fanatics, though, and not the average player. They treated it like a religion.

Camelot Unchained. It's a kickstarter MMO game that gained a lot of notoriety among game journalists when the fanbase coordinated a mass email spamming spree in order to draw attention to the game in order for it to reach its goal. The average donation of all contributors was something like 120 dollars. That's freakin crazy.

I want to say Minecraft, but that doesn't feel like a true fandom since most of them are children who will grow out of their fanatical ways. Don't get me wrong, it's an alright game, but those damn kids scare me.

Halo fans. Those guys treat it the the holy father of FPS. Never have I seen more blind devotion to such a mediocre game franchise.

The bioware fanbase seems to be very....changable and demanding. Singing praises one second and foaming at the mouth in outrage the next (I'm not talking about the endings to ME, from my time at their forms this seem to happen a lot over very minor things).

The other fan bases I don't interact with much though the Vavle devotion I see around the place can get crazy at times.

Sonic. Even though Sonic had terrible games released year after year, Sonic fans kept on buying them for some reason. The only reason why Sonic is still alive is because it still continues to make money, regardless of the quality in the games. So I'd have to say Sonic fans are the most dedicated.

I actually think it's adorable lol.

I think a lot of devoted fans are kinda adorable! It's nice to see that something can stir up so much passion. I can understand it, too. It's that nice feeling you get when talking about obscure comic book characters, stories, etc.

But most devoted, I would say WoW.

To be fair, it is the Holy father of mediocre FPS games. But, I dunno. It's a lot of fun to play, imo. Plus it has a great soundtrack.
