The DS Chrono Trigger is a better game, if only because it uses the DS interface better. But play both.
Personally I didn't like FF4 for the DS at all.

I'm not a fan of Final Fantasy 4 so I'm pretty biased, but I'd say go for Chrono Trigger.

Even if you finish it and you decide to play FF4 after that, you can alway come back to CT later and try to get one of the other endings (as you may know, the game has quite a few different endings, mostly depending on when and how you beat the final boss).

Iv never played Chrono Trigger but because of the different endings i would play it first then play FF4, so you can go back to CT and not get tired of it.

Final Fantasy IV!!

It's a great game that will last you a while depending how you play.
Let's see. My play style: Ignore bonus dungeons and harder/annoying side quests.

I'm playing Chrono Trigger right now and I love it. I've not played FF4 though.
Also, it's funny how you say "JRPG haters don't click here" but you have a "JRPGs suck" option. :p

I like both, but personally I enjoyed Chrono Trigger more. It just seemed more fun and the interface was better.

Trigger it is. After I finish up Dragonball: Origins tonight. Btw, Dragonball is better than Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Surprisingly good. Especially for $10.

I've played both, and FF4 on the DS was awful, while CT was a marvelous translation of the original. Go with CT.

Chrono Trigger, One of the few RPG's I actually played to completion. It's a excellent game with many odd bits about it. Good odd.

Chrono Trigger, The DS version has two bonus Dungeons, one that links to Chrono Cross, but the original game itself has side quests that it encourages you to go on.

Not played FF4 myself, but it sounds like a pretty solid game. Chrono Trigger will last you a good 50-80 hours.

i first played FF4 ages ago when i got Final Fantasy Anthology for the PS1, have played an emulator of CT, and it was awesome, but ROMs never hold my interest(with the exception of Earthbound, one of THE best RPG's ever) I'll get the DS ver if i actually see a copy i saw one but i never buy DS games at launch. i just dont like paying $70 for a DS game, paticuarly things like phoenix wright that are only a few hours long and have essentially 0 replayability.
*ends rambling*

Played through them both and I think they are pretty equal.

Think I preferred FF4 though, I think, I played it awhile a go and can only remember getting annoyed with the end.

CT it is. :)

Let's see... I didn't like FF4's plot, characters, or villains. (I would've liked the Dark Knight, but he wussed out and became a Paladin with useless powers.) Some of the music was fine, but that's not a good reason to play a game. It's better than FF8, but only by a certain margin.

Meanwhile... Chrono Trigger had a plot that kept unfolding and impressing me, again and again. The characters were all uniquely different and cool, some of them from different eras entirely. I loved the boss fights and the music selections. The villains, both major and minor, were done exceptionally well. Plus, it had time travel. Not hackneyed time travel, but GOOD time travel.

Play Chrono Trigger!

I've played both and have to say I enjoyed FF4 better, Chrono Trigger is still a shining example of time travel done right. I enjoyed the combat more, the augment system was great, and the music was epic. Plus it's challenging. Both are excellent games either way.

You said you were going for Trigger first but don't pass up FF4 it's worth it.
