Poll: Which town in Skyrim would you live in?

There are a number of settlements scattered throughout the rugged terrain of northern Tamriel, or Skyrim. Are you partial to any? Which would you choose to live in AND conversely, are there any you dislike?

Personally, I would like to live in either Solitude, Riften, or Whiterun. Solitude is the obvious favorite for being a pretty and well protected city. It is also one of the cities that is least afflicted by the unfortunate amount of racism that persists throughout the Elder Scrolls games. Riften and Whiterun get honorable mentions as they are also aesthetically pleasing towns in their own right, but they aren't as nice for me.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Windhelm and especially Markarth would be the two I dislike the most. Had I been asked a few weeks ago this very same question, I probably would've responded that Markarth was my favorite, but after a number of quests and spoilers, I'm all set with associating with the denizens of the Reach. And Windhelm is obviously a racist shithole (cool looking town though. With better management, my opinion of it could change).

So what do you think? Where would you want to settle after you take an arrow to the knee become filthy rich.

Please note, option 6 says "Another "main" city". By that, I specifically mean Winterhold, Dawnstar, Morthal, and Falkreath (all of the other main cities of their respective holds). Therefore, option 7 would basically imply every other town in the game (i.e. Rorikstead, Dragon Bridge, etc).

Not to bash on what you said, but aren't many places of our world filled with many people who carry prejudices that can be described as less then wholesome? And the Imperials wanted to kill you because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time, and they were just douchey about it. That's hardly the fault of any particular town or hold (unless you count Helgen, but in that case, they got what was coming to them).

I'd like to live in Rorikstead. The scenery out there is just beautiful, then again so is pretty much every where else in Skyrim but I particually liked it there. If I had to choose a major city though it would definetly be Markarth. It just seems like a badass place to live.

Can't really pick a single place. It's between Solitude and Whiterun. Solitude because it's very dramatic and luxurious there, Whiterun because it seems friendly there. And I guess it's because I know that town better than any of the others since I spend so much time there.

It's a tough call between a bunch of places. Solitude, Winterhold, Morthal, Markarth, but I'm settling on Dragon Bridge because of it's location. Then again, if the Forsworn problem was solved, I'd say Markarth.

I feel as if this is a fairly common opinion, as most people do end up spending a lot of time in Whiterun.

While I agree that the architecture of Markarth is easily the coolest and that the terrain of the Reach is also some of the most interesting in the game, I just wouldn't fuck with that city. I don't like spoiling details about quests, but needless to say, there are a few denizens who aren't exactly candidates to replace Mother Teresa. Plus, their Jarls kind of suck too.

Whiterun. Every other is too extreme for my tastes. Also : i loathe Riften. Everytime i visit it, it's like walking knee deep in sh*t. :|
And Markath ? Damned hypocrites, liars and manipulators...

Tie between Whiterun and Solitude. If forced to chose I'd go with Whiterun. Simply because it would probably be more affordable. Plus I'm not next door to the bards college. Think about it, trying to get some sleep one weekend after a week of long and arduous adventuring then BAM! Burning crown celebration or what ever the hell it was called. Other than that it's a really nice place to live, spacious plenty of room to store your crap. Even a fancy bed.

I don't like Stormcloak's racism towards my Argonian character (even when I am neutral) but I like Windhelm's structure and local.
Winterhold, despite the weather, has a college I could live at for a long time.
Lastly, Whiterun is pretty cool for its local.

Oh yeah, points go to Solitude for being ON an arc.

I like Whiterun, but it's a little too close to the front lines for comfort, as a supporter of the Empire, I would get massacred in Whindhelm, so I guess it's good old Solitude for me, also it's a major place of economy, I'm sure that I would be able to set up shop there...might move to Whiterun when the war's over.

Morthal... Idgrod the Younger.

Plus it's a pretty chill place but also close to Solitude.

About the prejudices: Yeah, but it's kind of rare that someone just randomly walks up to me and says, "Them fuckin' n****s is ruining our country!"
Pretty damn rare. But in Skyrim I can't walk ten feet without being accosted by the Red guard KKK.
This is true, I can't dispute that. At the same time, I feel like a good number of the NPCs aren't characterized in a racist way. However, the ones that are tend to be rather vocal.

None, they're all full of racist assholes, and I could get sentenced to death at any random moment just for having a religion or being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Seriously, at the start of the game you are being executed just for being in Skyrim. Fucked up place.
I picked "other: Helgen" for this reason. Everyone's dead and it's near the border.

Probably Solitude, although Whiterun is a close second.

I'd choose Solitude because it's the safest, definitely one of the better places to live, and that arch it's built on is pretty cool. Oh, and the people aren't all of a bunch of racist pricks (see: Windhelm). Whiterun's pretty friendly as well, Dragonsreach is cool and it reminds me of Edoras from LOTR.
