Poll: Who else is a little depressed about the content loss?

You know I don't want this thread to turn in to a drama fest, I don't want certain parties mentioned, and please lets keep it civil. This thread is about the things that have gone from the site and we are going to, or already miss.

Personally I wasn't much of a follower of the things we lost most recently. One I'd never really checked out, the other I rarely agreed with, but watched from time to time.

To me the biggest loss was Jim Sterling, not because of the loss of the Jimqusition, but more for other reasons. I liked his reviews a lot... Still We do have those at another source...

No what I miss are Jim's Collaborations with Yahtzee. Rhymedown was pretty fun while it lasted. But their chemistry in Uncivil war was absolutely amazing, that series had so much potential, it was such a disappointment to see Jim leave at the end of the first "season."

Well there I've spoken my piece on this, and feel a bit less depressed now that I've got it off my chest.

How are the rest of you feeling?

Honestly, no. I come for the forums now, which I check on my phone sometimes. Yahtzee is here, and he's the main reason I came to begin with. I didn't even know anyone else before hand. As long as the site stays up, I'm fine.

I do miss Jim though.

Jim ... Jim fucking Sterling, son. But I like some of the stuff he's doing via patreon so I decided to kick a few dollars in his direction as I'm quite fond of his Squirty Plays. He likes the same stuff, has the same sort of qualms I do about games, and he's tough but fair.

Honestly, barring all the surrounding stuff, I loved Bob's nerd outs and he was mostly right about the difference about 'political correctness' and liberty of expression. Yahtzee ... ehh. I must admt I was attracted to Yahtzee way back when, but it was hardly something I watched for the last four years. I stuck around for Jim. I miss Doralingus and Associates ... Doomsday Arcade, though that was all wrapped up.

I didn't mind Miracle of Sound stuff. I found it hard to believe they were at one time belting out a new song and v-clip every week or so. Talent and punctuality in one, can't go wrong with that. U-Realms. 'Kicking names and taking ass' ... gotta love the Roamin.

I'm genuinely interested in Liana K ... but I must admit, I've not been much into cosplay given that at one time it represented a way to exercising my gender identity without all the other weights attached of actually living trans. Since I actually came out it's not something that on the whole is something want to go back to, given I don't really need (or want) to pretend to be someone else. Though blowing the dust off the ol' sewing machine might be fun.

Extra Credits ... though some of their less game-related stuff was kinda inaccurate. Like the wireless internet stuff and the bandwidth in the air, and all that junk. I spoke with an engineer and they said it was all bunk ... plenty of airspace and all that. I'll spare the technical details because;

A: I'd get them wrong.

B: I don't understand it myself (so I really shouldn't be critical)

Hmmmm .... Lisa Foiles was okay, but I must admit I didn't watch all her stuff.

Over all, I find myself more than a little depressed at the content that has dried up, and there's only really one piece of proposed future content that I find I'll actually watch (though certainly not with an avid fan's level of curiosity). At one time, making and wearing outfits based on designs from game or anime characters may have been my thing, but not so much anymore.

I'm not too depressed about the content loss simply because the content is still around, it's just no longer on the Escapist. Jim is still reviewing games on his website, for example.

I'm more depressed about the general direction the site it headed in. The forums have basically hit rock bottom and the people running the site don't really seem interested in retaining their original audience. It's depressing seeing something you've loved for so long change into something you no longer recognize.

This may come off as melodramatic, but I really don't feel at home here anymore :/

Yea, I'm a bit saddened to see schedule shrink to the size that it has. I remember being able to find something I'd enjoy every weekday.
Monday: Jimquisition, Movies/TV Podcast
Tuesday: Critical Miss, Big Picture
Wednesday: Feed Dump, Zero Punctuation, Comics/Cosplay Podcast
Thursday: No Right answer, Science/Technology Podcast
Friday: Critical Miss, Escape to the Movies, Video Games Mega Podcast

Jimquisition: In his latest episodes, it seems Jim was constantly going over the same things over and over again. Also, I didn't care all too much for his schtick, fortunately he dialed it back and kept it to the bookends, where it could be easily skipped over. Finally, I really hated how his theme was disproportionately loud compared to the volume of the rest of the episode.

Big Picture: I'd venture to say Bob was like Neil deGrasse Tyson of the Comics/Movies/TV world, in that he could take something that was... WEIRD, and explain it in a manner where someone, who has only the layman's understanding, could understand and appreciate. Though I didn't always, if ever, agree with Bob's politics, the only fault I found with the series is that recent episode when he tried to cross-promote the Game Overthinker. I was a fan of TGO until he thought it was a good idea to add characters and that he could act. It wasn't a good idea and he couldn't act, and when he received criticism he added "Stawman" to represent those views. That was the point when all my interest in TGO died.

Escape to the Movies: I rarely go to the movies. So, I appreciated the reviews as I could at least have a functioned understanding of the movies without having to actually seeing them.

Podcasts: Again, I enjoyed listening to Bob talk about Movies/TV, Ross... not so much. The Science/Technology Podcast was the only one that actually appeared with any semblance of regularity, and I sometimes questioned the level intelligence of those on, when there were talking about subjects that they clearly knew nothing about. I'm a little concerned about the new re-amalgamated Podcast, considering last one randomly ended mid-sentence.
I look forward to see what, if any, shows management is looking to bring to the site. Because, while articles are one thing, I'd prefer to just watch a 5 minute video.

On the one hand I really don't miss it all that much. Jimquistion seemed to be covering the same thing over and over in the final months, and I was never really taken with Bob. At this point even Yahtzee leaving wouldn't hold much importance to me content wise. On the other, content providers leaving means a general downgrade of the site, which will likely drag the forums along with it. And that's really my main concern now. I like this place, warts and all, and I would really hate for it to crumble down.

Really sad. The Big Picture is the main reason I visit the escapist. I really hope Bob starts up something similar very soon.

Hopefully they'll change their mind on hiring this chap [https://twitter.com/TheBrandonMorse/status/532034374796345344] as its resulted in losing another round of I Hit It With My Axe. [http://dndwithpornstars.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/were-not-playing-d-with-escapist-ever.html?zx=1ef27205a676f8a0]

You didn't really give the option of "Not really worried, but also not excited about the new content." So I'm declaring that as my vote.

I have no real devotion to this site. I come here to occasionally read stuff about video games that I find interesting, and to watch video content from some of the contributors. But, seeing as all the people leaving are still doing their stuff, just on a different site, nothing's really been lost for me.

Plus, considering how sometimes I have issues watching the videos on this site, and go to youtube anyway because the links seem to perform better there, I'm already in the habit of consuming escapist content from an outside source.

The forums are a minor thing for me, most of the threads have no bearing to me personally, or are simply about a subject I don't care to talk about at all, so again, not much there. In fact, I just finished watching the new Jimquisition from his youtube channel, just like I normally do on every Monday. So yeah, the only change in my routine there was clicking a different website link.

I'm just here for the forums. I'd be content with that as long as they exist. Hell, Yahtzee could leave and I wouldn't care.

Good for them, I never really gave that show much time but it's nice to see people standing up for others.

Bloody good for them.

I didn't rate the show myself, but it's great to see someone who can actually influence the Escapist's purse strings.

It's unfortunate that jim and gav left, but Moviebob getting out is quite joyful. I'm also looking forward to mosley and the cosplay person.

The only thing I still watch with regularity is Feed Dump, which is still here. I'll give the new content a bit of time to grow on me.

Count me in the depressed side. Gavin, Bob and Jim were three out of five my personal favorite contributors (the other two are Yahtzee and Shamus). I couldn't care less about No Right Answer or some other stuff even if I tried, to me THEY made this site what it was.

I never cared for Jim and Bob leaving actually makes me happier. He was becoming almost insufferable. I mostly just use the site for my news feed anyways.

Yes. Even without Bob, I used to watch great shows on here like Soraleous and Associates, Space Janitor (Yes I know those two got Youtube accounts), There Will be Brawls, A Good Knight Quest (I know those two are kind of one off things) Top 5 with Lisa Foiles and Reel Physics.

Not having any new permament video content shows is unsetting and it does make me question the state of the site (heck even the removal of that Escapist news thing make me wonder they removed due to cut or that people didn't like it in general?).

'Depressed' would be far too strong a word, but I'm kind of sad to see most of the contributors I usually come to this side for leave. Really enjoyed the stuff made by Bob, Jim and especially Gav... regarding content the only thing the Escapist still has to lure me back is ZP. (To be fair, this is what made me join the site in the first place.)
Not sure if I'd just up and leave if the Escapist decided to give Yahtzee the boot one day, but then again I'm not entirely certain the forums would be enough to keep me either.

Honestly, Susan Arendt was the biggest loss for this website. She was one of the only positive and genuinely joyful people among the cynics and pessimists.

Although to be fair, even her presence couldn't change the direction in which these forums were going.
