The lack of any new original content was what immediately turned me off the game; the major selling point was a graphical upgrade that was poorly executed and not that important in the first place, the tweaks to mechanics were highly limited to the age cap, and all one got for one's trouble was a couple more weapons, outfits and Achievements. As such, with little noticeable or desirable change, what was the point in buying it, especially for the price it was (and still is) retailing for?
In terms of the original question, the other thing we have to remember is that Fable's original release in 2004 was successful due to the innovation it brought to the table, and rightly so. Ten years later, the majority of the features in Fable have become commonplace, and have been executed better in a number of other games, including the Fable sequels, so you have to expect that the reviewer of Anniversary is not going to be as awestruck with the product as they would have been with the original ten years ago.
