Is it me, or do nintendo keep making the same thing over and over again?
i mean: mario, zelda, the DS. the list goes on.. If they made something new they might get some more money.
okay, the wii was inventive but they're just making the same games for it over and over again.

It's a really big dead horse...

They still come up with something new now and again, but they see the potential in rehashing old series and making money off it, so it keeps happening.

Because they can't be certain if something new will print money like something old will, so why take the risk?

The same thing can be said about Nintendo making new games out of old franchises.

They already are successful, why keep making sequels?

This isn't a question of fixing what isn't broke. It is more about Nintendo making something new rather than continuing to work on their old franchises.

Because apparently nobody from Nintendo ever goes to Gaming Forums.

Also because they make enough money from Mario and Zelda and all that anyway.

Whats the problem. It's not like they're making shit games.Galaxy,Metroid Prime 3 and Twilight Princess were all excellent games. As long as the games continue to be good then why shouldn't they continue with those franchises

Until the games stop being fun to play, I don't see the problem. Fun is still fun even if it is constantly repeated. Nintendo is still the boldest company out there. I mean who else would take a huge chance on a new control scheme other than Nintendo. They are still innovating but they are focusing on gaming as whole instead of just franchises.

That's what I mean. The re-working of old franchises seems to be working for them. Why should they risk putting out something new? (Wii prints money, etc)

if I could make the same thing EVERY DAY and get paid the same amount EVERY DAY and never have to improve on anything other than the production process since I know people will still clamour for my product what is compelling me to make an improved/inspired/new/different product?

So... you're using the "Why fix what isn't broke" argument against the people using the "Why fix what isn't broke argument"...

PARADOX!

Because you still buy them? Not that I'm saying you shouldn't, some of the remakes are actually rather enjoyable and the sequels are... well, pretty good for sequels. Even though some of them can't even really be called sequels if you strictly follow the definition.

Nintendo knows what works and they make it work, somehow. What I'm concerned with is their recent love of shovelware, therein lies the greatest problem. But so long as people enjoy it... who am I to argue?

There is a glaring flaw in your comparison of Zelda to Halo though.

Halo 1 and 3 are both part of a continuing storyline.

However, most games Nintendo makes are indirect sequels. That is, they have little to no connection to previous titles. They all have incredibly similar premises, yet they are often not canonically related to each other.

And that is where the argument of Nintendo not releasing something new comes from.
That makes no sense at all.

To have a continuing storyline is to not release anything new, as it's the same thing happening.

In an indirect sequel, it can be totally different, and the only connection being the title (Or in Zelda's case, The names "Link", "Zelda", and the boomerang).

I mean, come and.
Zelda one and Wind Waker?
Totally different games, and it's a brand new idea.
For Nintendo.
...

Yes, what I said makes no sense.

Must edit away mistake!

Yes Nintendo does continue the same franchises a lot but, for the most part the games are Excellent and most of them are better than the NEW games that people desire.

Metroid for example.

Has 8 games and i would argue that ALL of them have been great AND new.
Metroid and Metroid Prime, same series, different experiences.
(Metroid Prime:Hunters included, i believe that while it lacked it was still a good and fun game.)

Id love for Nintendo to make a new IP.
But if they still continue to make great games with an old IP i could care less.
Im still getting a great game.

Get some more? They've already got more than god, what the heck do they need more for?
Frankly, nintendo has always been with the rather gimmicky crowd, (see what they did during the NES era? All the random peripherals that 'sold separately' with the system along with "Captain N" the tv show and "The Wizard" the movie?) and really only care about money. Zelda, Mario, and Metroid are their best selling franchises, so why stop when people will pay buckets for your next remake? It's just like the hollywood movie industry.

You're beginning to see your mistakes.
Your ego is deflating.

Also, why is there a pineapple in your avatar.
It's more mesmerizing than the actual avatar.
What are you talking about?

I edited it away so I wouldn't see my mistakes anymore.

HA!

And the pineapple is the new Priate symbol
