i got a bit bored of it and wasn't too happy paying nearly £10 a month for a game I've already payed £10 to own and not really knowing how much i would play thereafter...
suffice to say i stopped playing a few days before my month free ran out. I don't even think they give out a free full month anymore do they ?

A strange desire to reclaim your own life.

A concept that escapes half of the hard core WOW players that don't realize that there is a world outside of that series of wires and tubes that make-up the internet.

I got bored before half of the trial has ended.

Where is this option?
Same here, I liked it, but I am paranoid of subscription fees.
Nonono.

I didn't like it. It bore me faster than some F2P games. I don't think I would ever pay for it.

Ooh I quit a long time ago.
Stopped at I think level 52.

Just got bored of the game and playing it.
Made some friends, sure, but most of them moved on as well.

I played WoW since a month after launch, and it was so much fun back then. I must have quit at least 10-15 times over the years, but now they have turned it into a giant loot give away because people are too lazy and stupid to work for it. Everyone has the same gear and are all running around happy "Look at me, I have EPICS! Therefore, I am EPIC!". It used to be just the gamers that played it, but now with TV ads and the general population of idiots entering, they have ruined it just like everything else they touch. I could rant on more, but I don't really care anymore.

I've never played WOW but a buddy of mine had to quit as it was taking up 10 hours of his days... needless to say this did not go down well with the wife and child...

I have always avoided WOW due to having an addictive personality... it would probably be like discovering crack...

I think WOW is incredibly boring. I can't stand the way combat is handled.

i was lt. general dethstorm, i started playing as soon as the game was out, i hardly had any friends out side of the game (most people i knew played the game),server transfers and friends quitting caused things to get a bit lonely, i had almost quit until i ran into a guild leader who took a liking to me and invited me to his guild despite the bad first impression i made on a raid since i had been pvp spec at the time. in due time i had become his right hand man, helping people, making sure their addons were working, solving disputes so my guild leader could enjoy time outside of the game without worry (i was 18, he must have been in his 30s).

months after i joined another guild crashed, we took in some of their members. i handled any mages being class lead, i really only had to handle one... the ex class lead. i pulled up his information on the armory while talking to him, my usual procedure was to ask for their stats (even tho i could see them on armory) the point of this was to see if they were telling the truth (if they lie about their stats they might be prone to lieing about other things) but its not high numbers im looking for, its honesty. he couldn't say anything that wasn't a lie, when ever i asked him something about his character, he resulted in insulting me somehow and saying he was better than me. i denied his app (only time i ever denied someone in my time as class lead, he soon start contacting every person of power in my guild telling them to invite me and saying it was alright thankfully no one invited him... until the guild leader logged on the next day and believed him. i told the guild leader i wouldn't have any problem with him staying as long as i got an apology from him.

and what did i get?

the new members talked to some members that had been upset over some polices (DKP), they where the kind of people that wouldn't do the work but wanted the loot, and got them to rebel (leave guild and make a new one) some members that didnt even know what was going on left in the panic (we went from 75 members to 20).

the guild leader and few loyals decided to try our luck on a new server. they left and my only option was to join the rebel guild, but it was as i had expected, higher ups getting loot when they wanted even when lower ranking members had weaker gear. after a month i decided to get some money and transfer to join up with my old guild mates. dethstorm was taken so i made my new name, zerkave, i found my guild mates and joined a guild they found... but thats when it hit me... i was at square one again, raiding KARAZHAN when we were closing in at getting to raid black temple... and entire year's work, gone. my guild leader left the game because his wife (who also played) had become ill, others disappeared as well until it was just me and one other decided to quit, i left all of my gold with the last guild mate and promptly unsubscribed even though i still had a half a month of playtime left.

only a few of the friends i went into the game with i still contact, i went from paying 15$ a month to making over 500$ a month working min wage, all of that money will be going to college (dead beat dad wont pay, mother paid for my brother since he already knew what he was going to be in life) at least i think ill be getting some gov money.

still thinking about playing wow after reading that?

...and i still never got that apology from that mage.

The game lost it's charm when the burning crusade came up...no more 40 man raids or epic boss fights, And lets not talk about resilience. the only positive thing they made was making off-specs valid.

I played WoW for over 2 years, I loved vanilla, I loved BC, I loved WotLK. Especially WotLK, as a matter of fact. I was a hardcore raider in TBC, but it wore me out and I took a break from WoW to play WAR. That game gave me a whole new attitude towards games, and especially mmorpg's. So I started WotLK with a fresh start and a whole new view on things: no longer treating the game as a second job, because that's ultimatly the player's own fault. Thus I really enjoyed WotLK, especially it's fan-fucking tastic atmosphere, I really got immersed in the game. But that all ended this januari. The reason is véry simple: I ran out of content. I did it all, seen everything, did everything, and well I'm not going to do the same thing over and over again. Thus I quitted. I enjoyed my stay, but no game lasts forever. Gotta say that Ulduar is going to be an amazing raid dungeon. I won't enter it though, I lack the time to raid nowadays.

Yeah. I mean I never had the chance to go on 40-man raids but from what Nivag has told me, they sound totally awesome.

Hate to say it, but having tried both, I find Lord of the Rings Online to be a better game as toward what I'm looking for in an MMO. Better graphics, deeper plotline, more vibrant characters, even down to the smallest NPC.

Less pulp, more plot. *shrugs* But as ever, that is only my opinion. WoW bored me in two months' time; LotRO hasn't in two and a half years. An MMO is a big time commitment, and should be held to a pretty high standard of quality as a result before you cast those many hours into the well... or so I think, anyway.

NOTE: I played LotRO first, then switched over to try WoW after all I'd heard shortly after the release of WotLK. I purchased and played with both Burning Crusade and WotLK installed, and still didn't find enough of what I'd want.

A number of reasons. I was sooooo soo bored of the game. I would log on and walk around IF for 10 minutes, and then go "what the hell and I doing?" and log off and go play crisis or L4D. I was down right SICK of spending 15 bucks a month to spend hours of my life doing the same thing every day, which was log on, get a heroic going, and then be harrassed by 5 year olds about how I ruined they're life because I pulled an extra walking tree into the group. Another big reason was school. I'm going to college come summer and I'll be damned if I let this get in the way of getting my degree. Probably the last straw, though, is WOTLK. It just ruined it for me. It made me realize how much of a waste of time the game actually is. I was all siked about getting to 80 and once I did I was like "hey wait, this is the same exact thing as lvl 70" just the same old raid / heroic / BG. Nothing different, I was NOT about to fucking grind my way to the top again. So I said that's it, and that was it :c. Good luck to anyone who wants to quit, its not hard, just don't pay anymore. Why waste your money on that when you could be gettin' some tonight if you know what I mean.

I find that an interesting point, you make it seem that the leveling content all doesn't matter, like all that matters is getting to 80. That would be a shame really, especially since WotLK's is great in that department, the leveling content. Don't forget that that is also where the bulk of the content is, endgame is barely anything, just a few instances. I had exactly that mindset when I stopped playing just before WotLK, and because of Warhammer Online I realised: the route towards the goal is just as important, or even more important, then the goal itself. Hence why I had 3 great months in WotLK before I ran out of content.

People join WoW thinking "AWESOME!!! so much stuff to do, what to do first?" Then 5 minutes into the game you realise that all the decent stuff is about a weeks worth of gameplay time of grind away. I played it to give it a chance and see what the big fuss was about so I played until I got to level 24, by that stage there still wasn't anything to make it worth playing, it was just a few shallow quests and monsters to kill. Maby I'm spoilt from playing Guild Wars but the whole questing system in WoW seems pretty weak, I think it's the only game which dosn't make it obvious of where you have to go to do the quest, granted this isn't so much of a problem for the more experienced players who know the copy/pasted forests and deserts like the back of their pale, spotty hands but for those starting off it is very discouraging getting told to go to some play with a name you can hardly pronounce let alone locate! And could they honestly have got more boring than "Kill x amount of x" or "deliver x to x". But anyway it really isn't worth the bother, there are far more immersive and worthwhile games to play for the same monthly fee if not a one time buy, like as previous posts have said, EVE, it takes a bit more upstairs to play and you can actually have fun while your skills train!

What so bad about having to look a bit, about having to discover a bit? Heck, if I find anything nót immersive is completely knowing where you have to go. That makes it even more chorelike, it's just a matter of going to the right area, do what you have to do, and go back again, instead of properly looking around, following the road, looking at the signs, things like that. It's the reason why I never really liked Warhammer's PvE, it's too chore-like, a lot more then WoW.

Anyway, you're right at the first part, when I compare vanilla and TBC quest system's with WotLK's quest system, the first are much less diverse, much simpeler. Blizzard would do good to overhaul vanilla's and TBC's questing to make it just as good as WotLK's. A lot of content is also going to waste now, most instances in vanilla are deserted, same happening with TBC now, and I think that's a great waste of content. You're also right that it makes it look daunting for the new players, because it takes so long to get to the really good stuff (and a lot of other good stuff is going to waste). It's not that vanilla and TBC are crap, o no I still love the feel Westfall gives me, and Terokkar Forest is still beautifull. It's just that the gameplay itself is not on par with WotLK, so I understand why leveling (at least untill that point) really feels as a necessary evil. Blizzard should definatly do something against that, it's a massive waste of content.

I quit WoW because I got bored, but I had been playing for 3 years so that's fair enough. I still like WoW and think it's a good game, but hey, 3 years is 3 years.

I still listen to the zone/instance music on youtube though :p Damn that game has a fine soundtrack.

Edit: Also, to the poster above me, they should totally make heroic versions of all the 60 and 70 raids. To think that so many new players will breeze by, never sparing a thought for Illidan or C'Thun!
