So i finnally found something i could watch, a dvd i didnt even know i had, "The Hangover", but it came with 2 formats, widescreen and fullscreen and i always pick widescreen just cause i like that format, but then my brother comes in and says to put it on fullscreen. i told him to piss off and if he doesnt like it, to go get a copy and watch it in the other room. Anyone else have a favorite format?

Yay, I just love being distracted by two annoying black bars sandwhiching my movie...totally.

Full screen always.

Widescreen, especially for games that have hud elements that could be hidden if in fullscreen.

Fullscreen, but that's just because I don't have a widescreen TV. It's really quite bothersome that most games and TV shows are in widescreen by default and can't be changed to fullscreen.

Widescreen. Feels like I'm watching a movie and not some made-for-tv BS.

Of course If you have a widescreen set, it doesn't matter as much.

Widescreen, that is the way the director saw it, it is the way I want to see it too. My mind boggles at the thought anyone would want to see a badly cropped incomplete vison. I remember seeing a scene in a panned and scanned film where two characters were facing each other talking, neither one was in shot, you just saw their noses every now and then. Ridiculous.

I don't have a true widescreen TV display, I use a computer monitor, and the proportions seem slightly different.

Widescreen, if it adapts to the monitor proportions. A standard theater-proportion film on a widescreen monitor just doesn't work for me. The letterboxes are almost bigger than the film! And full-screening it really stretches it badly.

However, something at 4:3(?) standard ratio stretched to a widescreen monitor ratio generally looks just fine after the first couple of minutes.

It all depends what sort of screen I have available. If there's a wide screen TV I'll watch in wide screen for the full picture and effect. If I'm using a standard display I need full screen format, because the few bits of peripheral scenery I lose is a small sacrifice for a considerably larger view.

have to say i agree with PAX.. depends on the screen... if i have wide screen, i'll take that.. if i have normal, i'll go with full screen. But i won't fuss one way or the other

If I'm going to watch a movie I want to watch the entire movie, not half a movie, with the other half off-screen.

Assuming I'm not watching the video on a widescreen TV, I would still sort of prefer widescreen... To a degree. I've seen movies especially get a little bit ridiculous with the widescreen, squishing the picture and making it really narrow. But if it's just a slight widescreen effect then it's fine. Games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 have a slight widescreen ratio on them and it actually improves the look of the game. I remember Lost Planet having it too.

Widescreen. I'm not seeing the full picture if it's in fullscreen.

Kinda odd that they call it the opposite of what you get.

Widescreen, because I have a widescreen TV so I don't get black bars anyway. Not that I mind either way, as long as I get to watch the goddamn thing I'm happy.
