Say, if a neighbouring country invaded it? Or if a superpower like USA invaded it? Or if you are fighting against terrorists? Or in some other consipracy theory like Metal Gear Solid sort of thing?

Simple question, just Yes or No:

Would you give up your life for your country?

You might want to have an "undecided" option. I live in the USA and it took me a while to decide. I don't know if I value what this country's given to me enough. I mean, Canada offers free health care, and you aren't looked at funny by the world.

For the USA?

No, I hate this country with a passion. We think we're the best when we aren't. We think we can overthrow anyone because we have better stuff(which we don't). Our damned leader wants to be king of the world. The two current presidential candidates suck. We're practically in a depression.

God do I wish I lived somewhere else.

It would depend on what happened. If there was a good chance my death would help my country & keep it sovereign, it would be a possibility. However, I would not want to die a pointless death.

Hell no. I don't fight other peoples battles, mine are hard enough as they are each day, what with uni and studying to get a better job and earn more money:D

Yes. No one likes Nationalism any more apparently, but your country is full of your countrymen. There are instances where sacrifice serves the greater good.

Maybe my government does things I don't like, but I would die to protect my countrymen, sure. At least, I think I would.

My country is being taken over be the pussy-whipped christian leaders. we are just a idiot away from forced christianity.
And no I don't hate any believes, but I am an atheist, and I would liek to remain that.

And really what has Holland done for me lately?

So no, I will not give my life for my country.

There's not many things I would die for so I might be a bit biased. I could live in the best country on earth (which I don't) and still not want to die for it.

You can't have a simple yes or no, because it isn't that simple. Say for example America invading Iraq, I wouldn't join the army in that case because I don't believe the army had a good reason to do that, but say something like WW1/2 I would as that was a cause worth dying for. Also I would defend my country if it was invading but only if it was just a spontaneous attack/unprovoked as I wouldn't if the scenario involved us being dominated by a dictator/corrupt government.

Probably not. I'd like to think I could do more good by living for my country than bleeding out for it. Martyrs can't perform first aid or help with post-war reconstruction. And yes, I'm a bit of a coward; just not enough of a coward to prefer dying to dealing with the aftermath.

If I knew that my death would have some meaning beyond just cannon fodder, I would give it some thought. If I would just be a pawn in a game of attrition, I would say no.

Yes. I would choose to live in america or england over living in one of those other countries any day. I love waking up every morning knowing that I live in a country that allows all of its citizens near complete freedom. also, our videogames never get banned. The best way to describe it is what they said in south park "this country is founded on doing one thing but saying another", half our people are jerks, and the other half are pretty cool.

I agree with chomesuke though, our country is being invaded by the christians too. Out here in california the people were dumb already, but now I have to listen to them spew ignorant crap about thier god every 10 seconds...
The only time I wouldnt die for america is if I died for California. Thier stupidity makes all the smart people look stupid by association. When those jerks finally decide to start a (fourth?) crusade, and go to war with all the people of islamic faith, I'm moving to New York or something. I would hate to die in a war between two religions that are exactly the same, fighting for a god who doesn't exist...

I decided a while ago that nationalism caused way more harm than good, and removed it from my list of values (I just might be a robot). I'm quite fond of rebellion however, so I'd gladly sacrifice my life to stick it to some giant arsehole invading my country for little reason. I'm a little weird.

Yes, if it was being invaded by a foreign force or some similar situation. But not for any of the bullshit wars that have been happening ever since WWII happened. Screw that.

Sorry to be off topic, but what part of California do you live in? I grew up there are that description does not sound like any part of California I know.

Yes. If a country is filled with citizens unwilling to defend it in its hour of need - to the grave if necessary - then it can be sure to die sooner or later - and probably sooner. Few things scare me more than death, but one of those things is living by selling out my country and its people. I don't have to agree with everything my country does to believe that an attack on its soil is an attack on its better nature and its people - both things I would defend.
Having said that, I'm not very comfortable with going to a war I might not agree with. This is why I'm 80% sold on joining the reserves, but not the army.
