Poll: Would you hit a woman in self defence(If it were Ronda Rousey)

I'm not too held back by gender roles and stereotypical thoughts.

I'll punch anyone in the face who is trying to make things to real, and physically aggressive. Man or woman, you ball up a fist and swing at me, or take an action to do actual bodily harm to me, i'm going to fight back, and you'll have to deal with it.

My personal defence guide to avoid having the crap kicked out of me by assailants regardless of gender.

1. Don't get into a position where you have to throw a punch in the first place.
2. If the above fails, try to diffuse the situation by talking. Check for obvious exits.
3a). If situation escalates and obvious exits are North and South, flee.
3b). If situation escalates and obvious exits are Dennis, aim to disarm and de-escalate the situation. If that means grapples or parley it doesn't matter, do what needs to be done. Take opportunity to flee if one opens up.
4. If impossible to de-escalate, incapacitate. Knock 'em out.

I have reached the fourth step once. It didn't end well for him. Fortunately though I tend to be able to talk myself out of most situations that I find myself in, although I cannot remember the last time I needed to. Protip - stay out of trouble, kids!

I mean.. as a general rule, I don't like violence. Man/Woman doesn't matter, it just... when someone throws violence at you, and you go back at them all it does is perpetuate the cycle. Someone has to make the decision to NOT fight, regardless of the outcome.

I'd probably just sit down Indian style and call her bluff. After all, it's Ronda. She's a sensible human being. If I don't match her energy it will resolve itself.

If you ask me more in general if I would hit a woman who I felt was beyond reasoning, say a oxycotin drug addict with a pipe or a gun trying to mug me... I honestly don't know. It could go either way in that moment, but in my heart I know I don't want to hurt anyone. I have a hard enough time sleeping as it is, I wouldn't want to compound it knowing I killed someone.

I would only hit back proportionally to how hard I was hit, but since this is Ronda Rousey we're talking about and I have the physical stature of a 22 year old, socially awkward, reclusive, gamer shut-in I would probably get my face kicked in within the first 5 seconds.

Seriously though, the first rule of self-defense is don't get into such a situation in the first place. The second rule is that if you end up in that situation you run, run, run. The situation you describe is one in which she hasn't even swung at you. She hasn't brandished a weapon and she hasn't touched you so if you hit her there's a very good chance it wouldn't be considered self-defense. So yeah, regardless of the gender of the hypothetical assailant they're not at the point in which its considered self-defense.

Being pedantic aside, in an actual situation of self-defense the gender doesn't matter. Just make sure that your use of force is a reasonable response. You do not escalate the force that is being used. That is not considered self-defense, that is considered assault.

Fun fact, if you can prove the aggressor has the ability and training to fatally wound you unarmed and there is a legitimate cause to fear such physical harm, then lethal force can actually be the legal response. Sometimes you get into bad situations, it happens. So if someone like that cornered me and made the intent to maim me then I'd hit em sure, with the $45 worth of 45 cal lead I carry. But if the sprit of Holly were to put the wrath of Holm in my fist I'd use that first, just to say I did.

In a general note, it's not ok to hit anyone. Why do some people think that women can get a free pass to just because of their genitalia? This is called equality folks, you try to hurt me and I hurt you.

I find my safety a lot more important than some shitty societal rules. I won't just punch in self defense, I'll do whatever it takes to incapacitate the opponent. I don't believe in fair fight either so if I need to use a weapon I'll do it.
We don't live in medieval times anymore. Women are, despite what some of them claim or wish, equal in modern society to men in eyes of the law. So if you attack another human being, your sex shouldn't let you off the hook.
