Poll: Would you play Deus Ex Human Revolution if it started Adriana Jensen instead of Adam Jensen?

I was just reading Shamus's latest experienced points and it really got me thinking; would a AAA action game work with a female character who is not a 21 year old bikini model with something to prove?

What if you had a game where 32 year old security expert Adriana Jensen lost her nerdy scientist boyfriend in a terrorist attack and needed to scour the globe unraveling a mysterious conspiracy and searching for her lost love? Would you play that?

I would. What do you think?

Sure, why not. Jensen was cool and all, but the appeal for me in HR was the setting and gameplay. I did end up slightly disappointed in the game overall, but it had nothing to do with Jensen as a character.

I don't see why not. Other than not really liking Deus Ex in the first place, and only playing about two hours of it, I mean. I would prefer some other plot device than "rescuing my boyfriend" as that sounds lame (was that actually the plot?), but whatevs.

Sure.

Deus Ex would actually be a pretty good fit for a female protagonist.

Come to think of it, you could choose to play as a chick in Deus Ex: Invisible War.

A girl with Augments? Sure :)

Sorry, the love sub-plot was completely and utterly shit, it came off plain and non-existent yet exists in this awkward and apathetic zone. Megan came off as a psychopath which is neither good for either sex.

It doesn't nowhere near surpass the Gunther and Anna sub-plot in Deus Ex 1. The sex is pretty much irrelevant in DX1 as well in IW so it's all smoke and mirrors.

That said, I don't play Deus Ex to watch Romeo and Juliet.

Only if the Typhoon becomes a pair of Austin Powers nipple machine-guns instead.

And now seriously: Why not? Gender bears no relevance on the gameplay or the story whatsoever.

Sure. I mean why not.

I honestly don't give a flying fuck about a main character's gender. I value gameplay, aesthetics, setting, level design greatly. Those are the elements that interest me in a game.

Why not?

Female security specialist forearm-blading people to death while sneaking through complexes?

Bring it on!

Well written characters are just well written characters. Gender is arbitrary.

You know how you can make the industry have more strong female protagonists?

1) Make a male character like you usually do, with all the strenghts and faults.
2) Keep their actions and how they are dressed exactly the same.
3) Draw boobs on them.

Strong female protagonist.

Dude, the protagonist could be a transexual and I still wouldn't give two shits for one singular reason:

Deus Ex rocks.

Yeah I still would. That game was hella fun.

Maybe for the next Deus Ex they'll make the main character a female? That would be cool. If they are going to make one that is.

I don't see why anyone would say no. The protagonist's gender has very little to do with anything in the game.

Yes, of course I'd play it. I play Deus Ex mainly for its cyberpunk setting and atmosphere. I don't care what gender the protagonist is. For all I care, they could be a transsexual 9-year old if that makes sense somehow. I'm not really sure how that would work, but if it did, I'd be game.

Boob augmentation!

I would also accept the boobguns the fembots in Austin Powers have, but missiles > bullets.

I honestly don't even care if the protagonist was a female in the game since all I wanted was a good game.

If it was female then that's cool since gender didn't have much to do in the game.
