i personaly hate it. people use it as an excuse to do anything, even random stuff that has nothing to do with how many times you live.

and it's used as an excuse do you things that shorten the life you apparantly only get to live once.

I'll echo Takey's sentiments regarding what "you only live once" should represent to people. Couple that with "Don't be a c*nt" and you've got the makings of a pretty nice life.

I do use YOLO as a means of motivating myself to try different things. For instance, I would have never discovered the wonderfulness of Sushi if it wasn't for YOLO.

YOLO is, well it's hard to explain. Let's just pretend YOLO is a meme (I'm talking about the acronym here, not the saying) okay, pretend it's a meme. YOLO is what would be considered a 'forced meme'. It's utter shite, but some group use it to bits in the futile hope that it will alter reality to become non-shit. It then picks up steam because other groups of the same kind/interests use it as well. In this case, YOLO is being used by the 'cool kids' you know the 'non-stop partiers' the 'gangsters' (the huge, palpitating assholes). So now YOLO is a 'cool' acronym of some sorts because all the 'cool' kids say it. It's a fucking joke however. Say YOLO ten times in a row and tell me you don't feel more stupid.
In summary - the saying 'you only live once' got misinterpreted, turned into an unnecessary acronym, and then made 'popular' by morons.

Dafuq? I am pretty sure I recently (this month-ish) saw a webcomic on that and I thought it was xkcd. Turns out it wasn't. It wasn't SMBC either so either I'm going crazy and making stuff up, or I saw it somewhere completely different and hallucinated the circumstances. You only live once means that if you don't do things that could be awesome you might miss out on it and never get to do it ever. Trying to live a healthy life in order to make it longer and doing things that make you happy, but may shorten your life is what makes life worth living. You do only live once so have fun while it lasts.

I think their point is that you only live once so you may as well enjoy it. I think it's to go out and have fun and try new things, instead of doing nothing because you're afraid of what might happen.

For some people it's drinking, trying drugs or having sex. Which is, arguably, a lot more fun than ranting about how bad they are for you.

For others it's eating a burger instead of a salad.

Then for others, it's packing in your job, collecting all the money you can and backpacking around Asia.


Everyone has a different definition of meaningful and fulfilling. I don't think it's fair to say that everyone who has a bit of that kind of fun is a selfish asshole.

Yup, it's awful. I actually only learned about YOLO pretty late, my brother usually reads 9gag and it was the first place I actually saw it.

But at that point it already spread out. It's easy for me to just step away, but I understand that people might get fed up because they are surrounded by morons.
