Hello everyone.

Thought I'd start off my forum-day by making a poll about everyone's favourite video game genres.

Before I do that, though, there's the matter of only 9 options in the poll, which is why I'm doing this in a certain way. The overall genre will represent most subgenres in the same category.
If you get the idea, let's try it out.

What's your favourite game genre?
And if you can be bothered, why?

Action-adventure: (I.E.: Legend of Zelda, Prince of Persia etc.)

Adventure games, including; Point'n'Click, Text-based and Visual novels/Interactive movies: (I.E.: Monkey Island series, The Longest Journey and Myst, etc.)

First/Third-Person Shooters: (I.E.: Modern Warfare 2, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Gears of War etc.)

Horror Games:
*Survival Horror (I.E.: Resident Evil, Silent Hill etc.)
*Action Horror (I.E.: Dead Space, F.E.A.R. (I count fear as a horror more than an FPS, since it scared the shit out of me when I first played it :)) etc.)

MMORPGs:
*Massively Multiplayer Online RPG's (I.E.: Ultima Online, World of Warcraft etc.)

Party games:
*Music games (I.E.: Guitar Hero, Rock Band etc.)
*Party games (I.E.: Mario Party, Buzz etc.)

Simulation games:
*Life simulation (I.E.: The Sims, Second Life etc.)
*Construction and management simulation (I.E.: Sim City etc.)
*Vehicle Simulation (I.E.: Orbiter, Spy Hunter etc.)

Single-player rpgs:
*Eastern RPGs (I.E.: Final fantasy series, Soul Blazer etc.)
*Western RPGs (I.E.: Mass Effect series, Dragon Age etc.)
*Hack'n'Slash (I.E.: Diablo, Dragon Slayer etc.)

Strategy games:
*RTS (I.E.: StarCraft, Halo Wars etc.)
*TBS (I.E.: Silent Storm, Poxnora etc.)

Action adventure, more specifically hack and slash type games. I really like studying different weapons effectiveness and how to deal with multiple opponents etc. The best one I've played so far with respect to combat is Ninja Gaiden (The modern incarnations.) It is annoying me to no end that no one seems to be able to out do these games.

It seems this thread pops up every single day, but...

My faves are TBS and (w)RPG.

Games that combine the both of them are awesome.

I'm going with either RPG's or Hack'n'Slash.

I love many RPG's, but I'm not always in the mood for them. Hack'n'Slash games on the other hand are always fun.

Older single player RPG, I have yet to find a game made in the infinity engine that I didn't love. Eastern RPGs can be fun, in the same way that a book can be good, if I feel like reading something the author came up with while on opium that is (which I do every once in a while).

Strategy games can be fun too, though I'm too slow for rts and too impatient for turn based.

Platformer, because it has been scientifically proven to be the best. Why is it not a poll option?
What exactly are you referring to when you say action-adventure anyway? Almost all games follow some sort of adventure, and most of those adventures involve action.

RTS deffinitely.
Especially Dawn of War and Command and Conquer.

Then probably Horror Games (if they are actually scary) or RPGs.

JRPGs and MMORPGs, I couldn't say which more. I think it's the leveling up, it just makes you feel good. To say I love MMORPGs for the social aspect I fear will likely get me laughed at and keel-hauled, but I usually go into an MMO with several friends to explore the world, and if you're a careful judge of people you can manage to befriend actually decent people.
Of course the games actually need substance too. I've always been fond of the turn-based gameplay, or auto-attack systems that are practically the staple of the two genres. I love the variety too, even in the games with set characters each character usually has a good amount of abilities and as well usually enough characters that even if you hate some of them (Character wise or ability wise) you can switch them out eventually.

2D Fighter and JRPGs, neither one of which are on the poll, naturally :)

I tend not to like Western RPGs since they tend to play similar to MMOs, which I despise.

FPS and WRPG. Fallout 3 and Oblivion were my ideal games concept wise even though there is room for improvement in both.
I like RTS and TBS games as well, games like Dawn of War and Civ IV or Galactic Civ.
WWII Flight sim shooters are another one I like.

If I had to pick an overall favourite, it would be FPS.

Survival Horror, the old school ones not "Give me a machine gun with unlimited ammo"

It has a good mix of puzzels, survival, combat and story.

Either RPGs, Adventure games (like LoZ), FPSs, Survival Horror or Hack'n'Slash games.
Although if I had to choose one, it'd be FPSs.
Here's my favorite genres:
1.FPS
2.RPG or Adventure
3.Survival Horror or Hack'n'Slash
