Pornhub Traffic Dropped by 10% the Day Fallout 4 Came Out

The world's largest porn site, Pornhub.com, reports a 10% drop in traffic the day Fallout 4 was released.

According to Pornhub, thousands of users left the porn site to play <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/fallout%204?os=fallout+4
">Fallout 4 for a day, leaving an empty, porn-apocalyptic wasteland in their wake.

Now, it's important to remember that correlation does not always imply causation. In this case, though, I think we can all let our rhetorical biases roam, just a little.

The free video site reported that traffic among gamers started to fall at 5 in the morning on November 10th, presumably once Bethesda's massive release had been downloaded and installed by all those going the digital route. The dip's nadir was 10%, day over day. Around 3 p.m., the numbers came back to normal; by dinner-time, gamers had once again left Pornhub's servers for the warm embrace of post-apocalyptic Boston.

Pornhub president, Corey Price, spoke to GamesBeat [http://venturebeat.com/2015/11/13/pornhubs-traffic-dipped-significantly-the-day-fallout-4-came-out/]: "We can't say we're too surprised with what happened to our traffic during peak gaming hours."

"Based on the data, it looks like a huge surge of people decided to indulge in some wasteland wandering by taking the day off of work and school to play, while the rest of the world had to wade through what we assume were the longest hours of work ever in anticipation of some alone time with their consoles."

You'd think the site is kicking itself over not adapting to a wrist-mounted, Pip-Boy interface, but you'd be wrong - they're pretty good sports about it. "As huge fans of the game, we can't say we blame anyone for swapping Pornhub time for some Pip-Boy surfing instead," says Price. "We would have done the same."

Can you blame gamers for choosing to play with their Codsworth and Dogmeat? Fallout 4 continues to be one of the most critically-praised [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/editorials/reviews/14910-Fallout-4-Review-Bethesda-s-Open-World-RPG-Apocalypse] and widely-played PC games ever. Steam has the concurrent user numbers topping at 400,000; Bethesday says they've sold at least 12 million copies already, and that number is bound to rise.

So far, neither Bethesda nor Pornhub have announced a partnership deal to produce a XXX parody of the game (Fallout Foreplay!), but I think we can safely assume one is in the works. Escapist readers: I need your hypothetical porn title puns!

Alright I'll be the asshole and say it- we're all adults and we can talk like adults because it's just sex/porn and it isn't a big deal. As an AVID daily user of PornHub, I know I haven't been there since Fallout 4 released. I've been too busy shooting fools as Nora, the mother searching for her son unstuck in time and re-adjusting to her military past to survive in this new world.

Considering I've heard more than a few people proudly announce their intention to neglect their real-life sexual partners for the original plunge into Fallout 4, this is not in any way surprising. :D

I don't get it, explain yourself.
If a woman stands too soon after the deed is done then things have a habit of dripping out of her.

Ah, gotcha. Too stuck in my male perspective for that to have made sense, makes very little difference on that end ;)

Although was also thinking in the context of masturbation, given the topic.

I'd say I'm part of the statistic, butt I've done it since Fallout came out and I don't go to Pornhub. Cause you know, I like my videos to be longer than three minutes.

Holy shit... I thought I was the only one not watching porn because of Fallout 4.

But it turns out a lot of people rather play Fallout than jerk off, unless they're jerking off while playing Fallout.

This is the third time I've heard this in the past four days, and I'm starting to wonder if it's all some elaborate joke. Assuming it's not, let me state (not merely to Mister Sklar, but to everyone) unequivocally, now and forever, that correlation DOES imply causation, wholly and absolutely. If you touch the oven and burn your hand, that's a pretty strong implication that the oven is turned on. This might not be the case; the oven could be on fire, or it could have spontaneously turned into a portal to the furnace, or you could be suffering from unusually specific brain damage, but most likely, the oven's on, and the vastly higher likelihood of that first scenario relative to the other three means that the evidence pretty strongly points in that direction. What correlation does not is equal causation; burning your hand on the over does not prove that it is on, but it certainly does suggest it, which is all that "imply" really means.

For the sake of the future generations you do not wish to have travel back to today and kill you for your dictionary crimes, don't let "imply" become another "literally".

As to the news itself: does Fallout 4 not have a pause function?

When they turned on the LHC, we started experience more earthquakes. That would suggest we can predict earthquakes, which we can't. Sorry, but you're wrong.

The revenue from skiing facilities in USA and number of people who died from being tangled in bedsheets is 0.97 (perfect correlation would be 1.00). Are you saying one causes the other?

The word you're missing here is "always". Correlation is a good point to start when investigating a phenomenon, but it's far from the best. Alzheimer's disease is characterized by the accumulation of something called amyloid plaques in the brain and worse cases have shown a correlation with more plaque. Years of research (and probably billions) has gone into finding drugs that would reduce the amount of plaque. Recent discoveries indicate that amyloid plaque does not cause Alzheimer's disease and the drugs we've spent money and resources developing only treats a symptom. Correlation does not always imply causation. This is the danger of simplifying it to correlation = causation.

I can find countless of examples like this. If you want to correct someone, make sure that you're not far far far far FAR from being right.
