"Predator" Reboot Helmed by Robert Rodriguez?

Emotions fly as rumors peg the "Sin City" director to be producing the bromantic remake for 20th Century Fox.

The seemingly never ending horde of movie remakes and reboots shows no sign of slowing down in 2009, with the resurrections of "Bloody Disgusting [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758746/] has 20th Century Fox gearing up to bring the ugly you-know-what back to the big screen.

According to BD Horror News, there is currently no writer or script attached to the project, but Robert Rodriguez [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001675/] and his production company, Troublemaker Studios, are said to be behind it. While devoted fans of the 1987 Oscar-nominated favorite are already throwing themselves into a tizzy over the idea of someone recreating a film that, by all accounts, is most likely impossible to recreate, its the current pitch that is sending some folks past the boiling point.

"In the reboot a team of commandoes [sic] face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters."

In the original film, you son of a ***** [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye2esO7G6oM]," but in a totally non-angry, complimentary way.

People need to relax - it's not like when the new version is made, all copies of the original are going to magically transform into it. It might be really cool, I'll keep an eye out for it.

An increasingly large part of me is hoping all these remakes, reboots & sequels are a symptom of Hollywoods last hurrah before collapsing in a smouldering ruin of poor quality films & oversized budgets.

And the hole will be filled by what?
Nothing, really. In a world where Cinderella 3 actually sold, a sequel to "Crank" has been green-lit, and somebody decided that we needed ANOTHER Fast and Furious movie, I'm willing to bet that 95% of the country wouldn't even notice.

Hell, I love Crank and even I didn't think it needed a sequel. On the same note, I love Rodriguez and Predator, and don't feel the need to see the two combined. The fact of the matter is that this is happening every goddamned day. Either care and give them credence, or meekly hope for a second that they bomb and then ignore their existence.

I'm getting pretty sick of the sheer amount of remakes that are being made. I will probably not go see this.

Well, the original movie is pretty dated these days (up until the monster shows up anyway).

It seems perfect "sunday night dvd" fodder for me.

I mean, who'd go to the movies to see it?

If this movie comes out... im just going to give up on life... if this movie comes out and it earns more then $0 i will lose all faith in humanity and kill people and then myself. If any of you read in the paper that "a man from Jersey goes on murderous rampage before ending his own life" sometime after its release its probably me.

grow some dredlocks first, and let me know ahead of time so i can film it, slap "Predator 3" on it and sell it as a straight-to-DVD.

Agreed, if it's horrible then it doesn't affect your love for the first film. If it's enjoyable then you at least spent 2 hours having fun instead of sorting your socks. And hell if it's great then you have another movie to enjoy over and over. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Hollywood taking on more original IPs though.

They could do a prequel. After all Predator 2 had an old musket as one of the trophies, implying that they had been coming for hunting trips for a long time...

You are probably right. Hollywood stopped embracing new and original ideas a while ago. everyone is too busy giving clint eastwood handjobs with one hand and pitching remakes with the other. it doesn't surprise me that this is happening. i imagine Alien will be next. the new Friday the 13th movie will never be scary as the original for the simple reason of gloss. watching the original, it feels real because it was shot with poor quality film, it feels like it could have happened. just about every horror movie from the 70's and early 80's will better than the "gore" that comes out today.

But the real death knell of Hollywood?
Will "I'm a Tool" Smith and Steven "How Dare Anyone Think I'm Over-Rated!" Speilberg are attached to a remake of Oldboy (mostly like PG-13 to bring in more cash). I can find about 60 things wrong with that sentence.

It could be a good remake. I have to admit though, if there is more than one "monster" its going to be shit.
