All this and the fact the name is far too generic to top it off.PapaGreg096 said:There were two things I didn't like about this trailer, one is that the mechs don't move like they are over 500 meters tall, one of the things I love about the first one is that for every movement they make you get a sense of scale and weight, here they seem to move like ninjas. Another thing is that I feel as if the Jaegers are too similar looking compared to the 1st movie.
To be fair, there's nothing wrong with the Jaegars seeming to be the same. We're still only talking about maybe 15 years if they're talking about a new Generation and Gypsy may have just become the new gold standard. I mean, they tried non-analogue based Jaegars and they were basically dead in the water about ten minutes after being launched.PapaGreg096 said:There were two things I didn't like about this trailer, one is that the mechs don't move like they are over 500 meters tall, one of the things I love about the first one is that for every movement they make you get a sense of scale and weight, here they seem to move like ninjas. You know, that's pretty much the description of Battletech one could give (Give or take a couple worlds).undeadsuitor said:I really wanted to see a movie based around the ramifications of every world power having access to giant robots and no common enemy to fight
It was foreshadowed that the closing of that portal wouldn't be the end of it all though. It was essentially spelled out with "They will just keep coming". I mean, the access to Giant Robots was effectively gone at the end of the first movie too. The hangars were half destroyed and about the only people left were the scientists, the pilots, and a handful of people in the command bunkers. Not really a huge amount of people left that knew how the Jaegars were put together and maintained for it to become Gundam.undeadsuitor said:I'm disappointed that the Kaiju are back (though there might be more to them than the trailer is revealing)

I mean, we could have had some gundam shit going on. granted, the trailer does go into that with clear shots of Jaeger fighting Jaeger so maybe there's more.
I will be both intrigued and disappointed if they 'Watchmen' this.undeadsuitor said:And gundam. ...Just saying...
...Damn you, FASA, for letting the franchise split so badly that that dream is dead.
Joking aside. My money is on that actually being a plot of the movie. With the kaiju being human made for the purpose of stopping the fights by giving the countries a common enemy again.
No, but they're still the standard of warfare we judge by these days. They're designed for mass destruction, the Jaegars were designed to fight a specific non-human enemy. I mean, in the example you're giving, Jaegars are closer to tanks than they are to nukes.undeadsuitor said:Idk why have tanks when we can launch nukes? Nukes don't invalidate the rest of warfare. While it's true most of the world had given up on jaegers by the start of Pacific rim, though plans don't disappear.
I think there's more to the movie than the trailer is letting on. Those very human made looking skittering robots that fuse the kaiju together at the end dobt seem like the tech that made them in the first movie.
Ok, that actually would be interesting. But only if they let it be them who did it, and not some 'brain worm' they got while drifting that tricked them into it. The former could be an interesting twist and lead to some good character moments/motivations. The later is a bit of a cop out, I think.undeadsuitor said:DefunctTheory said:I will be both intrigued and disappointed if they 'Watchmen' this.undeadsuitor said:And gundam. The best part about that plan would be the "villains" would be the comic relief from the first movie.
Specifically Charlie from Its always sunny in Philadelphia
To be fair the first one was also generic, it was good don't get me wrong but I'd be lying if I said I could't predict a few plot points here and there.Zontar said:All this and the fact the name is far too generic to top it off.PapaGreg096 said:There were two things I didn't like about this trailer, one is that the mechs don't move like they are over 500 meters tall, one of the things I love about the first one is that for every movement they make you get a sense of scale and weight, here they seem to move like ninjas. I mean sure but it kinda takes away from the Jaeger's design, one of the things I love about the first one is that the Jaegers were so different from each other in both theme and country of originRedryhno said:To be fair, there's nothing wrong with the Jaegars seeming to be the same. Personally anything that makes Pacific Rim change from TV Eva to Gundam00 is a bit of a copout. I'm bored of "humans are the greatest evil to themselves" crap. We've got enough grounded stories that do that shit, I'm not interested in my mecha kaiju "let's have a good time" movie inundated with it too.DefunctTheory said:Ok, that actually would be interesting. This, and they're also just too shiny. It's like they're all painted with the kind of metallic auto-paint used for high end sports cars.PapaGreg096 said:There were two things I didn't like about this trailer, one is that the mechs don't move like they are over 500 meters tall, one of the things I love about the first one is that for every movement they make you get a sense of scale and weight, here they seem to move like ninjas.
