Can't say I'm digging the new music (The originals music was awesome, and it sounds like they just ran it through an audio processor again and slapped a rappers voice on it), but one of them has a drill hand that converts into a flail.

Fucking. Sold.

There were two things I didn't like about this trailer, one is that the mechs don't move like they are over 500 meters tall, one of the things I love about the first one is that for every movement they make you get a sense of scale and weight, here they seem to move like ninjas. Another thing is that I feel as if the Jaegers are too similar looking compared to the 1st movie.

All this and the fact the name is far too generic to top it off.

To be fair, there's nothing wrong with the Jaegars seeming to be the same. We're still only talking about maybe 15 years if they're talking about a new Generation and Gypsy may have just become the new gold standard. I mean, they tried non-analogue based Jaegars and they were basically dead in the water about ten minutes after being launched.

But yeah, that sense of scale is gone and I'm sorta annoyed that we're just going to completely new characters when we had so much build-up(for a mech not!anime) for the previous characters. Also I have gone from mild respect to "what the fuck are you even doing here" when it comes to...Bogden? New black brit actor on the scene. So I'm really only banking on del Toro at the moment. And even he's just taken a backseat to the guys whose sole claim to fame is the weakest parts of Daredevil, post-Season3 Buffy-Whedon and Maze Runner.

Really not getting my hopes up this time around. First movie was effectively a fanboy fantasy project, I'm not expecting the same kind of care to be put into this one.

You know, that's pretty much the description of Battletech one could give (Give or take a couple worlds).

...Just saying...

...Damn you, FASA, for letting the franchise split so badly that that dream is dead.

I'm disappointed that the Kaiju are back (though there might be more to them than the trailer is revealing)

I mean, we could have had some gundam shit going on. granted, the trailer does go into that with clear shots of Jaeger fighting Jaeger so maybe there's more.
It was foreshadowed that the closing of that portal wouldn't be the end of it all though. It was essentially spelled out with "They will just keep coming". I mean, the access to Giant Robots was effectively gone at the end of the first movie too. The hangars were half destroyed and about the only people left were the scientists, the pilots, and a handful of people in the command bunkers. Not really a huge amount of people left that knew how the Jaegars were put together and maintained for it to become Gundam.

Not to mention, it's not like the Jaegars were ever even all that well-designed for Jaegar to world-power engagements to begin with. They're massive sure, but the Australians were the only ones that had anti-personnel adjacent type weapons on-board. Everything else was just big monster punchers. Like what use would 3-arm style or Gypsy's plasma gun have been when you could just launch nukes?

And gundam. When is my live action G Gundam movie coming out.

Joking aside. My money is on that actually being a plot of the movie. With the kaiju being human made for the purpose of stopping the fights by giving the countries a common enemy again.
I will be both intrigued and disappointed if they 'Watchmen' this.

Idk why have tanks when we can launch nukes? Nukes don't invalidate the rest of warfare. While it's true most of the world had given up on jaegers by the start of Pacific rim, though plans don't disappear.

I think there's more to the movie than the trailer is letting on. Those very human made looking skittering robots that fuse the kaiju together at the end dobt seem like the tech that made them in the first movie.
No, but they're still the standard of warfare we judge by these days. They're designed for mass destruction, the Jaegars were designed to fight a specific non-human enemy. I mean, in the example you're giving, Jaegars are closer to tanks than they are to nukes.

It's one thing if Jaegars were redesigned, but all we know at the moment is that they still largely hold the same purpose.

Only docking a point for the rap song, hopefully someone will sync it up to the old Pacific Rim theme.

Other than that, fucking SOLD!

The best part about that plan would be the "villains" would be the comic relief from the first movie.

Specifically Charlie from Its always sunny in Philadelphia
Ok, that actually would be interesting. But only if they let it be them who did it, and not some 'brain worm' they got while drifting that tricked them into it. The former could be an interesting twist and lead to some good character moments/motivations. The later is a bit of a cop out, I think.

To be fair the first one was also generic, it was good don't get me wrong but I'd be lying if I said I could't predict a few plot points here and there.

I mean sure but it kinda takes away from the Jaeger's design, one of the things I love about the first one is that the Jaegers were so different from each other in both theme and country of origin

Personally anything that makes Pacific Rim change from TV Eva to Gundam00 is a bit of a copout. I'm bored of "humans are the greatest evil to themselves" crap. We've got enough grounded stories that do that shit, I'm not interested in my mecha kaiju "let's have a good time" movie inundated with it too.

Ehhhhhhhhhh...

I mean, okay, cool... I guess. But something about that trailer looked very "off".

They've dropped the general aesthetic and the lighting style of the first film in favour of... nothing really.

Also, the robots have really boring designs. The first film had much more distinctive ones, even if they then went and killed off the cool robots in the first fight to make way for the more generic ones.

It looks like something I could still enjoy, but I was hoping for the spectacle of the first film with a better plot. This just looks like something that would be best enjoyed while mildly drunk.

This, and they're also just too shiny. It's like they're all painted with the kind of metallic auto-paint used for high end sports cars.

They don't look like weapons made for the military. They don't look like they've seen any use. They look like toys.
