also, when you are in prison you really have a lot of time in your hands, and sometimes those people can surprise and dissapoint (because they probably want to hurt someone) you in how they can create amazing weapons with such limited resources

while it does appear to be a reverse-blade katana, the handle looks different from the design of Kenshin's katana.

Too bad that's Kenshin's sword instead of Sephiroth's sword. I mean, if one has to be impaled on a sword, that's the one. Being shanked with Kenshi's sword is just ironic.

Honestly though, if he were really planning to use these to harm someone, why put so much effort into it? People may be pretty crazy in prison, but if I were gonna stab a guy, I would use something more utilitarian. Small and pointy is easier to hide than TORSO SIZE!

Well, maybe he respected his enemy and wanted him to go out in style.

If he really respected his enemy then that Tensa Zangetsu on the left would have a manji for a guard and some links of chain on the end. This man would have brought dishonor to both his and his adversary's families had he used such a blade. Not to mention that he probably didn't take the time to make a badass coat and cover himself with bandages. HOW CAN SOMEONE USE TENSA ZANGETSU WITHOUT A BADASS COAT AND BANDAGES!?!?!

On the other hand we can't rule out the possibility that he was working on that stuff too but just hadn't acquired enough matches yet.
I mean of course weaponry would be first priority, think about how ridiculous "MAN BUILDS COAT OUT OF MATCHSTICKS, REASONS UNKNOWN" would look in the papers.

Oh they'd know the reason alright, they'd know! It was to save his girlfriend from the freakish phoenix guillotine! And to prove his honor to a girly man wearing hair decs who's also a huge douche! He would have been the most honorable warrior in all of soul society had he only put forth the extra effort on the badass coat and bandages... and if he hadn't been found out. That probably would have helped too... as well as soul society actually existing. All that stuff would've helped.

Given the level of detail he worked into them (well, considering it's matchsticks and glue) I don't think he's be breaking any of them on his inmates except as a last resort.

Till he breaks zangetsu like ichigo did in the fight against kenpachi, then rebuilds as a bankai, that's probably why he didn't make it the bankai version to begin with, authenticity

Jesus...was wondering when SOMEONE would figure out Kenshin's... Was pretty obvious. The reverse blade was a dead giveaway.
