Hawki, if you're reading this now, it's also a gift for you. Heard you weren't having the best day, so I thought about you when posting the vid.
More like a bad month, but thanks.
Anyway, chances are you already know how I feel about Doom 3, but in case you don't, it is my favourite Doom game, and it does end up in my top 10 FPS games. I get why Doom fans don't like it as much, but I'm usually not the person who subscribes to "it's different, now it sucks" - if that was the case, RE4 wouldn't be my favourite RE game for instance. But taking D3 as a game in of itself, I like it. I love the atmosphere. I love its take on Hell, and how it 'bleeds over' into the base once you return. The story is...okay, at best, but it's still competently presented and the best story the Doom series has had (granted, that's a low bar). Also like how Mars City feels like a Martian base that could actually exist, and the game reminds you just how harsh a planet Mars actually is (such as when you step outside, and see how the demons are just fine with stuff like low temperatures and anoxic environments). D3 oozes atmosphere. And while not the best in the world, the gunplay is fun. Straddles the line between giving you enough ammo that you can feel like a badass at times, but not so much that this is the default state, and you can certainly feel vulnerable as well. Not really survival horror, but has touches of it.
So, yeah. Really like Doom 3. Still, least as far as Doom goes, I doubt we'll ever see a game like it, since for better or worse, it's found a (new?) footing with Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal.

Ironically, there is some reverse hatred going on with the BFG Edition, where fans of vanilla Doom 3 hate it, because having your weapon and flashlight at same time makes the game "less" scary. Which is a load of bullshit. Why these type of fans care now about the flashlight now is ridiculous. Where the hell were you defenders when the "duct tape" mod came out over 15 years ago?
I've only played the BFG Edition, so can't comment too much. That said, there's sections of the game that were obviously designed for you having to switch between a flashlight and gun - the one where the glowing tanks move on rails come to mind.
